My house was vandalized today because of my Obama window sign.

Fucking cowards. I've had an Obama sign in my front window since he took the nomination without incident until today. Normally, because of the hours I work, there is always someone awake in my house. But today I decided to take a well deserved day off and took my family to an amusement park for some fun. When I got back I found that someone(thing) decided to chew up a tootsie roll or some other chocolate and spit it all over my window where the sign sits. It was simple enough to clean off but I find the timing of this incident to be curious at the least. My initial reaction is to let it be known that I am planning another day out and simply lay in wait for this bastard to do it again so I can beat the fucking balls off of him. What right has anyone to deface my home because they don't agree with my choice of candidate? None. I take that shit as a personal affront to myself and a threat to my family.

I probably should have taken pictures and documented the incident but I was too pissed off to think clearly at the time. I was just thinking "Fuck You, I will not be intimidated. You better hope I don't catch you." as I wiped the window down.

So, I'm soliciting advice as to how any of you guys would handle this. My plan is not very subtle but it's the usual way we handle problems in South Philly. I'm looking for clever alternatives that do not include felonious assault. Any serious suggestions would be appreciated.

I mean, that is a very mild prank, like a Halloween prank, something a kid would do. Be glad it wasn't eggs or rotten tomatoes, dog shit, etc. I certainly wouldn't beat someone up over it, think you'd have trouble explaining that to the police.

I tend to doubt it will happen again, especially if you always have lights and either radio or tv on when you're away. Use timers that turn some of the lights on and off at random intervals. You ought to do that to dissuade burglars, forget about spitters.

IF it happened again, then it would be worth trying to catch the person and photograph him.

If you choose to have bumper stickers or signs at your house, some idiot may do something to your car or house. It's unfortunate but there are antisocial types around and it can happen no matter what the sticker or sign says. I think some people just use them as an excuse. "Oh, bumper sticker, why not key car?" Craziness. :shrug:

Set up a web cam to show both the spitter and the flag
Put the video of the creep spitting on the American flag on YouTube


Or you could do what a friend of mine did. He had someone peeing in his flower beds, and on the side of his house at night. He set up a pressure sensitive pad under the grass (just folded back the sod, and put it under the grass). It was wired to trigger a loud recording of an angry dog barking. It worked.

I'd mount that somewhere above the window and put a board attached to some monofilament fishing line under some mulch under the window. When they step on the board, they trigger the bucket. It was on a Mothers Day when I met a former DU'er in from NY for brunch.

Then I had dog shit dumped on my car because I turned in some people who were violating school rules and bringing their dogs (about 20 of them) to the school early Sunday mornings.
