Hillary took the stage? Then, he teared up. It was very sweet. Despite his sexual straying throughout their marriage, I believe he has always loved her and that she is his rock. He was obviously ready to pop with pride while watching and listening to her.

3. I am severely hearing impaired, so I read lips.
Edited on Tue Aug-26-08 10:23 PM by tblue37
It was so obvious, though, that I bet even people with normal hearing and no lipreading skill could see it--and see that he really meant it.

Very sweet; very touching.

9. I am old enough to know that there are no perfect husbands
or perfect wives.

I am angry that Bill and John Edwards and McCain cheated on their wives. But Bill and John didn't dump their wives for someone younger and richer. That is even worse than cheating.

18. I am not so sure about that....
People who try to have it both ways, make me wanna puke!

It is really easy to screw around on your wife, treat her like someone to take for granted, and of course try to get away with it until you are caught, and then stay with her because she wants to stay with her for God only knows why...I don't give a rip about the twisted love life of the Clintons. But to romanticize it like this is like making a Hallmark card out of Hannibal Lector. Sorry. Ridiculous.

28. You sound bitter
I don't know what your personal story is, but life isn't as simple as most of us would wish.

Was Hillary right to stay? Elizabeth Edwards? I won't judge them because I am not them.

But I do know that over 50% of married people cheat on their spouses.

Many of the spouses who think their partners haven't cheated are wrong.

But what about the spouses who find out that their partners have cheated? Should all of them get divorces?

I think the old saying about not judging another person until you have walked a mile in their shoes applies to this situation.

That expresses PERFECTLY the thought that I was groping for, when considering the so-called "burning issue" of marital infidelity in high places. THANKS!

11. Yes, and I very much disapprove of what he and John Edwards did to the
women and children they say they love--and that I honestly beleive they do love. But male sexual straying is sort of hardwired. It is a matter of character to resist that hardwiring (also known as animal nature) and live up to promises and obligations. Obviously, Bill Clinton and John Edwards didn't show much character where that was concerned.

But I still think that even men who stray may really love their wives, no matter how selfish and weak their straying shows them to be.

15. I saw that too, he was about to burst his head with pride, he was just glowing
and I don't think he even knew the camera was in the room, much less pointed at him. PUrely natural.

Regardless of his straying etc. I have always believed they are each other's best friends and always will be.

I also see this in Barack and Michelle.

For a second, the young kid that once a hopeless romantic in me teared up -- for a second. That was a beautiful and touching moment. I think -- for that moment -- there was nobody in that room but Bill and Hillary.

27. Yes--but I would also feel that sort of pride if Chelsea were my daughter.
Edited on Tue Aug-26-08 11:11 PM by tblue37
My own (very wonderful) daughter met Chelsea in Oxford while doing her own first study-abroad in England. She was just visiting Oxford for the day when she ran into Chelsea (who was studying there at the time), who sweetly posed with Becky and her friends. She said Chelsea was very nice to them and not at all put out by their eager "Pictures, please" requests.

31. Saw that - I was struck by the pure emotion
Thought I was the only one as I hadn't seen it anywhere mentioned yet here.

Just the look on his face repeating "I love you, I love you, I love you...." said it all.

I forgave Bill for a whole lot these last days/weeks after seeing that.

34. Yes, and the way he couldn't help but tear up with pride and emotion
Edited on Wed Aug-27-08 12:44 AM by tblue37
seeing her up on that stage, and hearing the crowd roaring for her. He was so happy and excited for her, too. You could tell. I always worried that he was mainly eager to get bck into the WH and the spotlight for himself, because he has some very real narcissistic tendencies, but tonight he convinced me that he wants it for her, because he loves her and thinks she really deserves it.

I was very unhappy with the way Hillary handled herself during the primaries, but tonight reminded me of why I used to admire her so much--and I am delighted to be able to feel that admiration again.

33. Despite Bill's problems from early on, this is a great love story.
There have been many women in Bill's life, but only one Hillary, only one he chose for a lifetime partnership, and, from what I've heard, only one he loved. And despite it all, despite her hurt and anger, from what I've heard, she never fell out of love with him.

35. yep, saw it.
It was very moving. Later he had tears in his eyes.

I never doubted any genuine love there. He was an ass, she gave him hell for it, and they worked through it. Probably made their relationship stronger.
