David Frum: "Ms. Palin's experience in government makes Barack Obama look like George C. Marshall.
Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 09:40 PM by kpete
From David Frum, former George W. Bush speechwriter, National Review contributor, and thus famed left-wing shill:

Ms. Palin's experience in government makes Barack Obama look like George C. Marshall.

Ms. Palin's experience in government makes Barack Obama look like George C. Marshall. She served two terms on the city council of Wasilla, Alaska, population 9,000. She served two terms as mayor. In November, 2006, she was elected governor of the state, a job she has held for a little more than 18 months. She has zero foreign policy experience, and no record on national security issues.

All this would matter less, but for this fact: The day that John McCain announced his selection of Sarah Palin was his birthday. His 72nd birthday. Seventy-two is not as old as it used to be, but Mr. McCain had a bout with melanoma seven years ago, and his experience in prison camp has uncertain implications for his future health.

If anything were to happen to a President McCain, the destiny of the free world would be placed in the hands of a woman who until the day before Friday was a small-town mayor.

......................

So this is the future of the Republican party you are looking at: a future in which national security has bumped down the list of priorities behind abortion politics, gender politics, and energy politics. Ms. Palin is a bold pick, and probably a shrewd one. It's not nearly so clear that she is a responsible pick, or a wise one.

20. I agree.
:) Credibility, gone. "Honor" too...

...and THAT (the lack of honor point), when someone other than our candidates eventually brings it up, and someone will... is likely to throw McCain into one of his famous lapses of temperament. Anyone dissing his honor is his "trigger" and Achilles heel. I can see it coming now.

3. Actually, as Gov. of Alaska, you DO deal with foreign policy issues...
The neighbors are all foreigners.

It's not the cakewalk of a job people think it is.

But she's still not qualified.

18. Especially when you've got your hands full
with the Chief Of Police getting Canned and you're accused of Abuse of Power.

"Lawmakers will hire someone within a week to investigate whether Governor Sarah Palin abused her power in firing Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan. The legislative council approved 100,000 dollars for the investigation that will find out whether Palin was angry at Monegan for not firing an Alaska State Trooper who went through a messy divorce with Palin's sister."

http://www.phxnews.com/fullstory.php?article=62233

The July firing of Alaska Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan by Gov. Sarah Palin, who was announced as John McCain's running mate on Friday, has unearthed a stream of soap-opera-like details about Palin, her husband, her family and top state appointees. The controversy has also cut against Palin's reputation for holding an ethical line and standing up to colleagues in the Republican Party over matters of principle.

4. I don't trust Frum for a moment....wonder what his angle is.....
will she 'go back to her family?'

will Jeb Bush step in, or somebody more palatable?

this stinks to high heaven, even though it's spot on, of course

17. I'm ashamed to say he's Canadian
But he left us a long time ago. He's a confirmed, charter "Bushie" member.

I don't know what he's playing at, but I smell a rat as you do.

This is coming too soon.

25. You'll like this story...
A friend from Tee Oh was visiting me in DC. I met her at National and just after she got off the plane, David Frum barreled past her to get on the plane. In his haste he went 'in' the 'out' path and got collared to turn around and go through the metal detector (pre 9/11 when things were a lot more lax). My friend is VERY liberal and I pointed to him and said, "there's one of the country's leading conservative commentators." She said, "well don't let him into Canada!" I told her "He IS Canadian!"

Shmuck. I saw him have a leisurely bike ride on the Crescent Trail in Bethesda while I was jogging. I shouted at him"WHY AREN'T YOU IN BAGDHAD?"

7. I have no sympathy for McCain-- he shoulda realized it when he took this gamble
that he was opening a fucking can of worms about questions about his POW days, his health and his judgment.

12. If McCain makes a choice this bad and he's just turned 72,
what kind of choices will he make at 74 when he's been in office for 2 years? That is, if he hasn't blown the whole world to smitereens by then.

9. The entire fiasco is just beyond belief. Some see it for what it is
then there are these crazy nuts falling and tripping all over themselves at mccain's marvelous choice.

I don't get it.

14. Another take
I think we should point out that McCain in many ways has just replaced himself as the focus of the ticket-- start the chant Palin for soon to be President and see how that flies.

10. We can all agree that McCain certainly does not put
country first when he makes a pick like this one

This choice speaks to his lack of judgment. The guy who was responsible for the New Orleans fiasco was better qualified for his job than Palin is qualified to be vp.

And what does it say of Palin's judgment that she accepted a nomination for a job that she isn't qualified for?

11. less than two years ago Sarah Palin was mayor of a town of 5000 people... this is truly bizarre.

I find it strange agreeing with Mr. Frum...but this is so blatantly obvious

19. And Obama's judgment in picking Biden,
compared to McCain's judgment in picking Palin, makes Obama look like Solomon.

It's about judgment.

23. His head needs to be examined because
he's so out of touch that he believes a Reich Winger with a uterus equals change.

This chick is more attached to Bush's ass than McCain. I don't think Obama/Biden need touch her experience issue. Just cast her as Dubya in a Model's body and be done. Afford her EVERY bit of respect as an equal and then dismantle her in front of a national audience.

Let them hype her up, play along and then bash that head.

Reports are she isn't to much on Administration or policy...surprise...surprise...surprise!!!!

P.O. Dubya is the worst candidate in the long history of our union. He literally just makes a mockery of the entire process.

24. We're at a precarious time in this election.
The corporate media is either going to cover for her or not, and the answer will largely determine who wins this election.

We'll know soon enough. I'm a little nervous, frankly.
