Obama better get down to Gustav Hurricane ASAP if he gets there after Bush/McCain/Palin
Edited on Sat Aug-30-08 07:33 PM by GreenTea
that won't do....This is a huge photo op the republicans have been praying for....we know they don't really care about the people.

Rove and the republicans are going to have Bush, McCain and Palin helping people out of homes, rooftops, windows, whatever... with cameras all around them. Rove/republicans will do everything completely different than how they responded (or didn't respond) to Katrina.

There will be emergency vehicles everywhere, helicopters, with food, water, shelters and clothing for the poor victims of the storm.... confusion, chaos and everything else all around them, light's, cameras, media swarms focusing on McCain, dictating McCain's "bravery", McCain's "compassion & leadership" as McCain will pretend to be directing everything....

You can bet that Rove is setting this up just as sure as one can be...because the hurricane is going to happen....Shit, McCain may even accept the nomination in the storm area, saying the victims are more important...Never underestimate the fucking republicans lies & diabolical-ness.

Obama has to get there first, or don't come at all, making statements from afar won't cut it with the media coverage the republicans clowns will be receiving for being there....

This is the republicans week traditionally (Republican Convention) the democratic candidate politely lays low...But NOT during an emergency, as this Hurricane certainly will be....What else does Obama have scheduled this week that's more important a visit on the Tonight Show"?

Coming to the likely devastation after Bush/McCain/Palin just won't cut it!

25. Agreed ....
... better to encourage relief efforts from the relief centers than at the site of the disaster.

22. ROFL...ten thousand imbecile strategists
I guess it comes with the territory.

Yeah, I have much more confidence in the political wisdom of the Obama team than I do for the 101 dreck advice posts you see on boards like these. When it comes to crowdsourcing, as they say, it's 1% gold.

5. Seriously, the last thing these people need is politicians trying to score brownie points
Obama'd do better to stand up in the Senate and push for real aid. Now high profile Democrats who could actually help--e.g.Howard Dean, MD, could and should show up in the hurricane zone.

7. They don't need to "get down there"
That would be a disaster. What they need to do is stay vigilant and not let the Repukes try and own the issue. If that means going down there at some point, then so be it. But now is not the time.

have to be at the convention? When McCain certainly will get more favorable press helping victims during the week. Especially after the republicans fuck ups and insensitivity during Katrina!

"How will McCain get there first" - Maybe McCain could get there on his private jet or a Moped with Palin on the back or hitchhiking, yeah, hitchhiking with Palin and Bush that'll make headlines!

14. Of course Repubs will use this as a photo op
Everything is political, everything's part of the campaign. McCain will be a hero. FEMA is instructed to give him the best photo ops. Don't know what can be done. It's not like the press would call bullshit. But I'm sure Obama foresees this. He can only do what's ethical in this situation regardless.

and if the Republicans try to overly politicize it, let that come back to haunt them.

23. When Presidential candidates go somewhere the Secret Service follows...
They have to close down roads and take major security precautions which do tie things up in the area that they are visiting. No candidate for office should visit a disaster zone if it is going to disrupt the recovery efforts, and a visit from a Presidential candidate would disrupt the recovery efforts.

The problem with Bush during Katrina was not that he was not in New Orleans, the problem was that he wasn't getting other people to go to New Orleans. Barack Obama should not make an immediate trip to the Gulf Coast after Gustav hits, but what he should do is take a lead role in using his power as a Senator to get help to the Gulf coast.
