3. Non-Ivy League is okay.
I think it has more to do with how RWers are comparing Palin to Obama - a Journalism B.A. to a Law Professor.

At least I selfishly hope that's the case. My school isn't exactly Ivy League, and I doubt my law school will be either. Crossing my fingers, though.

... Can we still make fun of the Regent University grads?

32. Losers!
That silly Barbara Jordan. How can she ever amount to anything with a degree from a place like that? Clearly, she should have stepped aside for a more qualified Harvard graduate.

5. University of Idaho does not compare
to most of those schools. It is absurd to say one college is the same as the next.

But I agree with you.

8. I agree, although
If they are going to compare the experience and experiences between Palin and Obama, then not only Public office, but work in the private sector, in academia and overall academic credentials is open ground for discussion IMO. There's nothing "wrong" with her being from U of Idaho, but if a claim is made that she's "equivalent" to obama (as many RWingers are trying to do), then a comparison of resumes (including education) is appropriate for addressing that issue I think.

10. Agreed but many are saying she simply cannot be intelligent because she has a BA
from U of Idaho as a Journalism major (who also minored in Poli-sci).

That aside from what anyone thinks about the University of Idaho.

12. No. People are saying she's less educated
because she attended a less competitive school with a degree that did not focus on government, foreign studies, or anything that would particularly qualify her for Vice President.

That's what Frenchie is saying. John McCain has given us a VP nominee with a worse education than Harriet Miers and we all remember what the country thought of that.

17. Harriet Miers got into law school and presumably
passed a bar exam, as she practiced law. That's about the nicest thing I can say about HM, but it indicates more ambition and accomplishment than Palin has shown.

18. And all I'm saying is that where she went to college and what she majored in
DOES NOT gauge her intelligence. That's like saying people who never went to college can't be intelligent or the smartest motherfucker in the room. I'd guess there are some really smart motherfuckers out there that either couldn't afford a college education or didn't want one. Framing the argument that she isn't qualified by where she got her degree and what she majored in smacks of classism and elitism and really is no different than how the Repugs would frame it.

Attack her intelligence (or lack thereof) on what she did after college to continue her real-world education—that is where the argument should be framed, otherwise, you end up pissing off a lot of voters that went to "underwhelming" colleges or none at all (just as this has pissed off some fellow DU'ers because maybe they didn't get to go to first-rate colleges).

It's almost comparable to saying "Because you live in the south you must be a redneck hillbilly that's dumb as a bag of rocks." (Which Palin may very well be). Yep, let's piss off those folks by picking on her degree and school, not what she did with that opportunity afterwords.

23. It guages her education
I'm sorry you don't understand the difference between intelligence and education. You can have 160 IQ, but if you never opened a book, you won't be able to maximize that IQ the way a Harvard educated genius could. Certainly you can understand that.

9. That's me. You can punch me.
which of them got their degree in Journalism?

Did any of them get additional degrees. I Don't have time to look them all up, but looking real quick, I know that Tim Kaine also when the Harvard Law School, Maria Cantwell was a highly successful Business woman, Mark Pryor also attended law school and received a law degree, Barbara Boxers' Degree was in Economics, Evan Bayh also has a law degree from University of Virginia.

I could go on and on. What's an even better point is that none that you mentioned are Vice Presidential Nominees.

33. "It's sarcasm, son"
My point is that the DUers who want to riddicule Palin's degree from the University of Idaho are acting like a bunch of elitist assholes. Some people think that unless you were educated at an ivy League school or its functional equivalent (MIT, Georgetown, Stanford, CalTech, Chicago), you are somehow consigned to a lesser level of intellect and competence. That's complete codswallop, and I am not going to put up with it.

And FYI, a lot of Ivy Leaguers would consider Michigan and The Ohio State University to be "cow colleges". I don't, but I know plenty of people who would.

21. There are some pretty damn good universities on that list:
Indiana, Mich St., Ohio St., Missouri, Iowa State, Michigan (as selective as most Ivies). I'm a state school grad myself - University of Minnesota Twin Cities - and believe you me, many of the schools you listed are ANYTHING but "cow colleges." I managed to get into the same Harvard Law graduating class as Michelle Obama. There are good state universities and so-so state universities, just like private universities.
