Sunday Talking Heads living in bizzarro world
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 11:20 AM by Patiod
(yeah, I know, news flash from "Duh Weekly"

From what I heard on those shows this morning, Obama's speech was no good at all because it over-promised, and now the VP pick gives McCain cred with those vital working class voters in WV and PA (she hunts! she fishes! she shoots! Yay!)

NO mention of a united Democratic party (79% behind Obama, vs. 77% with Gore and 77% with Kerry). No mention of the home run he hit on Thursday night with that speech. No mention of the promised of middle-class tax cuts, and shifting the tax burden to those who cannot afford it to those who can, and absolutely no mention of Palin's hard-core religious fundamentalism. If they talked about the state trooper thing, I didn't hear it

I'm not stupid enough to think the Archer Daniels Midland/Exxon-supported shows would cheerleader for Obamba, but this is simply jaw-dropping. I though Maria Barteleroma was going to pee herself in excitement over how wonderfully earthy Palin's parents are.

2. Let them prattle on. We continue to work hard and get our people out and vote
and Obama wins. I have a retired friend who bleeds Republican and he told me Friday that he believes the election is Obama's to lose. Palin's pick is new and exciting to many now, let's see how it digests after a week or so.

3. I'll predict right now that these same people will say McCain hit a home run with his speech.
Just like they said Bush played even or defeated Kerry in the '04 debates.

They'll make shit up about what they thought he said and practically work themselves into a lather over how he really told his story and how it will lead this country into prosperity.

Oh and we'll hear 'POW' and 'maverick' a few thousand times, too.

5. Re the trooper -
Cookie Roberts goes where other pundits don't dare.

Cookie allowed as how poor Sarah HAD to fire him because he was running around threatening to kill people.

Wat

7. And to boot, they fail to mention Palin's changed statements in her investigation..
one must keep in mind these are the same MSM that failed to investigate voter fraud complaints in 2004 election,

8. No kidding! Did I wake up in the Twilight Zone??
I'm just dumbfounded by all the raving I've heard by the "talking heads" in the last few days. This is CRAZY! By their standards, I'M qualified for the VP position!

1. She eats mooseburgers, that makes her interesting! Um, she IS from Alaska...it's not THAT fascinating. I'm from Minnesota and I eat lefse - does that make me VP material?

2. She can balance a home budget, that makes her qualified to handle the Federal budget. Well gee, I handle our personal budget and also all the financials for our home-based business. I even keep an Excel spreadsheet of our budget. I'm a financial genius!

3. She has foreign policy knowledge because she's from Alaska, which is close to Russia. Again, I'm from Minnesota, which is on the Canadian border. Ding!

These are just a few of the ridiculous statements that have me shaking my head and wondering why I haven't been elected leader of the free world yet. Somebody wake me up - I'm in the freaking Twilight Zone!

9. I thought they would have learned from the "Hillary v Obama"
thing, and predicting a big fight at the convention. But no.

Again, what can you expect from shows underwritten by ADM, Exxon, etc.

10. I watched them all and I have to disaggree. Sure, there are GOP shills
but when weren't there GOP shills?

I really think, on balance, the basic feeling was

1. Obama and his family are irresistable, at least on the image/message level. Sure, a couple of the pundits just have to down-play his experience and question how he'll pay for all his promises, but, that's expected.

2. They all agree that Palin is only a short-term emotional boost to the "enthusiasm gap" that the ticket suffers from. They all admitted that. A couple tried to make the case that her 20 months as a governor were as good as Obama's tenure in the senate, but they were all answered by the fact that we know Obama and we don't know her. Some laughed, openly at the suggestion, that she's ready to hold the presidency if something happens to Gramps, and even Monica Crowley, GOP whore extrordinaire, couldn't win the point.

On balance, everyone admitted that the Dems are healed, Hillary did the right thing, Bill was better than ever, and Obama and Michelle and the kids were knockout.

Many said the Palin choice was gutsy but risky and that there's nothing to make you think she'll survive the debates unscathed.

Basically, unless Joe and Barack screw up, it's theirs to lose.
