Poll question: Will Gustav help or hurt the Republicans?
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 11:53 AM by Quixote1818
I think it will hurt because they won't have the nation focused on them for a week bashing Democrats and it will remind everyone of how Bush mishandled Katrina and McCain was eating cake at the time. A lot fewer people will be tuned into McCain's speech than Obama's. It also brings Global Warming back into the debate.

Also, Football games will be competing with them as well.

Then again, the Republicans might try to milk it for everything that can.

1. I think it will hurt them
People aren't going to forget about the ineptness of the republic administration during and after Katrina. So basically, the repubs likely can't win here because people will see right through the bullshit.

3. It will hurt them. McCain is looking at a Photo Op. Obama is organizing
a volunteer relief effort. McCain will make speeches, Obama will provide real aid. The differences will be quite stark.

4. I think it will help them
neither Bush nor Cheney will be at the convention. And though Gustav will remind people of Bush's mishandling of Katrina, Gustav gives him an opportunity to a least partly redeem himself.

You can be sure the Pubs will try to use this pending tragedy for political advantage, and unfortunately a large percentage of the American public is stupid enough to fall for it.
