I think Palin may end up being the Republican's Thomas Eagleton..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Eagleton#Selection_as_Vice_Presidential_Candidate

Democratic Presidential candidate George McGovern chose him as his running mate in 1972 with minimal vetting. After it came out that Eagleton had twice received electric shock treatments for "nervous exhaustion" he was replaced by Sargent Shriver.

1. Republicans-especially McBush-generally don't admit mistakes.
Expect McBush to stubbornly reject the advice of his handlers and let her stay on the ticket.

6. He may reject it
but he's not the only one who can be pressured. She may be forced to step down regardless of what McCain wants.

Either way, this was a HUGE misstep for McCain.

2. She won't step down. Her purpose is for the extreme right wing base
and the thought that she will get some Hillary supporters, which she won't

In my view mccain made a bad choice with her

There were enough repukes with experience that believe in creationism, are against all forms of abortion, anti-gay, and against regulation that he should have chosen

What he has effectively done is take away the argument of experience that he had been using against us

Now the focus will be the issues. Healthcare, social security, the Supreme Court, the war, the environment, etc

That is something the republicans should not want to talk about

Of course they will try to bring up the gay and abortion wedge issues, but in my view he blew it by choosing palin

3. Whether she steps down or not, he blew it.
Even if she were to step down, he's already demonstrated his bad judgement and that he's willing to pander regardless of the possible consequences.

5. Sen. Thomas Eagleton, Missouri
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 12:49 PM by MissWaverly
I thought of him a great deal over the years, he was dismissed for having had electric shock treatments twice; folks thought it made him unfit to be president. We have had drunks, rascals and worse in power since then, I wonder what the vetting process was for them. I personally liked Sen. Eagleton a great deal and thought he was a good pick. I have read where Sarah Palin piled up a huge debt while mayor of her small Alaska town with under 10,000 pop. Would like to hear more about that.
