The Republicans will try to play off the response to Gustav as a sign that they learned from their mistakes during Katrina, and that they care about the people that live in that region, but this is a smokescreen. Gustav is signficant to them, not becuase of Americans that live in that area, but the platforms.

If the storm is big enough, and destroys/damages these platforms, you are going to see epic market panic

the offshore drilling people will be changing their minds. This must be a concern. Although I don't think that is why Bush and his twin are concerned. The concern is well rehearsed acting to make up for katrina.

Whatever happens or doesn't happen we can all expect the inevitable "market response" price gouge from Big Oil.
They love these storms.

Though the republicans lied and says there was none...which was proved to be bullshit....There will be many more oil spills and environmental damage with this huge storm.
