Indications Palin Wasn't Vetted
Ankorage Daily News:
http://www.adn.com/news/politics/story/510249.html

Former House Speaker Gail Phillips, a Republican political leader who has clashed with Palin in the past, was shocked when she heard the news Friday morning with her husband, Walt.

"I said to Walt, 'This can't be happening, because his advance team didn't come to Alaska to check her out," Phillips said.

Phillips has been active in the Ted Stevens re-election steering committee and remains in close touch with Sen. Lisa Murkowski and other party leaders, and she said nobody had heard anything about McCain's people doing research on his prospective running mate.

"We're not a very big state. People I talk to would have heard something."

TPM: Getting Real About Palin
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/

Just yesterday, (Walter) Monegan gave an interview to the Washington Post in which he said that not only Palin's aides, but Palin's husband and Palin herself had repeatedly raised the Wooten issue with him and pressured him to fire him. And now he says he has emails that Palin sent him about the matter. (In an interesting sidelight, that may end up telling us a lot, Monegan says no one from the McCain campaign ever contacted him in the vetting process.)

The investigator appointed by the state legislature began trying to arrange a time to depose Gov. Palin last week -- in other words, in the final days before her selection.

Oops. That's not looking good for McGramps' judgement and temperatment.

1. I read a piece last night talking about her vetting.
She'd been on his short list since early spring and kept making the cut as they winnowed. I'll look for the link...

7. Thanks, I remember now that I read that too - thing is though
it doesn't say anything about her being "cleared" about this scandal in Alaska, which just had an investigator appointed recently, or about anyone doing any vetting of her up there since then in the last two months.

If they did know about it but went forward anyway, that's just as bad as if they didn't. I see no indication that they knew, and I bet they didn't. Wonder if Rick Davis will get "replaced"?

8. I really dont think that they would have moved forward if they didn't find enough
to feel confident in selecting her. But ya never know....

3. McCain can't be trusted, can he?
This is looking more and more like an impulsive, purely political decision on his part. Who the fuck doesn't vet someone who might have to one day step in as leader of the free world, as they say? Oh my god, that is scary! McCain is unfit to make the important, well-informed decisions required of our President.

5. The question is, was she vetted about being under investigation?

They probably did the general stuff. But it doesn't sound like they did much, if anything, about this scandal she's being investigated for in Alaska.

As it is now, the prosecutor will be concluding the inquiry just before the election - in October. That probably won't be good for the Republicans, b/c it's looking pretty strongly like an abuse of office on her part.

6. The article linked above says
"...The McCain camp had reviewed everything it could find on her, including videotapes of her public speeches and interviews. "She makes a great speech," one adviser observed..."

The anchorage paper had been discussing the case. I doubt they missed it.
