McCain is cashing in on hurricane--and it will probably work
I'm pessimestic. They probably have no other choice but they will turn their convention into a help the Gulf Coast crusade and it will probably work to their advantage. Why? The media will frame the issue and they will slobber all over McCain's statesman like action and the sheeple who don't pay attention most of the time will swollow it hook, line and sinker. They will have photo ops down in th gulf and they will turn the RNC into a telethon. I think any advantage they get will ultimately be short termed.

2. I don't know. I think the media would cover the hurricane anyway, and
McCain said if you can't beat em join em.

3. they might have caught a break
their convention was doomed to look totally pathetic compared to ours, now the comparison isn't as obvious. Also a great excuse not to have Bush and Cheney there.

4. those spoiled fatcats will never pull their weight
they have been wined and dined and partied their socks off, to have the music turned off and expected to perform charitable works will outrage them. Remember Barbara and her beautiful mind, that is the typical reaction of their
base.

6. It will only draw more focus on their failures
Little discussed fact:

It was long known in scientific and engineering circles that the levees in New Orleans would fail. Throughtout the 90's and 00's, bills were sent up to Congress to address the problem- and time after time THE REPUBLICAN MAJORITY refused to fund them.

The worst effects of Hurrican Katrina could well have been prevented and at the very least mitigated- but for the repeated pattern of Republican negligence in the face of crumbling infrastructure.

Same thing happpened to a certain bridge not far from the Convention site....

7. Nope. People are pretty set on their votes by now, and they'll see it as pandering..
..which it is. You cannot erase the deep hatred of the REpubs for the horrific behavior during Katrina. The shit McCranky is doing now is seen as total pandering to everyone, and it will not win him a vote.

What we need to do now is focus on mobilizing the voters we have, letting people know that McCranky isn't up to the job nor is his new little friend, and we have to work out asses off NOW to make sure that we have enough folks on the ground to keep them from stealing it.
