Clarence Page nailed it: The Palin pick was equivalent to the Alan Keyes pick
He thought it was ridiculous that McCain chose Palin, comparing it to the Repubs.' scramble to pick Alan Keyes to run against Obama because he's Black-thinking he'd win the Black vote. Now McCain (with the blessing/counsel of the extreme RWers) picked the only pro-life WOMAN he could find, hoping he'd win the woman (Hillary) vote. It didn't work with Keyes, and it's not gonna work with Palin.

1. Oh, I forgot all about Alan Keyes! What a loser in every sense of the word.

7. Well, not every sense.
Keyes was the only Republican candidate who accepted Michael Moore's mosh pit invitation a decade or so ago. I'll always respect him for that, if nothing else. Keyes doesn't say anything that he doesn't truly believe in. That's how you know how scary the man truly would be in office. Pity there aren't more Repiglicans like him. We'd win every election.

2. I mentioned that earlier today in reference to the cynical assumption
that women are a simplistic, monolithic voting bloc. Can you imagine African Americans turning out en masse to vote for Alan Keyes? WHy would the Repukes think women would swarm to the McCain ticket just because there's a woman on it? I'm insulted.

3. Very insulting. And even though nearly everyone in the MSM is saying this proves McCain is
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 06:45 PM by jenmito
a maverick, it really proves just the opposite: that he chose someone who'd make his base like Limbaugh and Hannity and Dobson happy when HIS choice would've been Lieberman or Ridge. And thinking it will draw in Hillary supporters just because they're "gynocologically the same" is demeaning to most women.

4. What is it about Barack that makes Republicans panic and do stupid things?
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 07:10 PM by elkston
He allows them to underestimate his resolve and then comes out with these strong body-blows.

In this case, it made McCain and company scramble when they should have thought longer about their VP pick. No rule said they HAD to introduce the VP on that Friday. They could have waited.

Too bad. Everyone knows they can't make the big decisions now.

9. I think it was the acceptance speech
One of the McCain people showed up on Larry King right after, he looked stunned during the intro spiel (the one where Larry introduces his guests and they all look at the camera).

They panicked, I'm sure if they could have found a young socially conservative black woman currently holding office, they would have picked her.

I don't buy this was a Rove plot.

29. I agree
This was a Grampy temper tantrum based on his belief in the existence of PUMAs. McShits allowed himself to be played by a Repuke false-flag op that was hyped solely by the M$M. P O Dubya bit on a dirty trick that was actually aimed against Dems and BELIEVED it. Guess KKKarl didn't send him the memo about the PUMAs being on the RNC payroll.

The irony of this is delicious.

10. They lack judgment and are totally
STUPID! Have you seen all the Repubs. trying to explain McCain's pick of her? They were twisting in knots trying to square McCain's earlier comments about how the first quality is s/he has to be ready to step into the presidency with their NEW theme that she represents a "fresh face" and a "maverick outsider."

12. Yup. They obviously think "they're" all alike. And Debbie Wasserman Schultz
took "MY" line (from a thread I started today) that Palin is no Hillary Clinton.

6. A machine could do better.
Feed the demographic data into the hopper where it robotically figures the odds and spits out the answer.

Oh wait...that's probably what they did.

8. Clarence was really funny today on the TV-Laughing at the entire idea
that this woman is a serious candidate for high office. He couldn't contain his laughter. It pissed off the other people on the show, but he couldn't help it. I really enjoyed him today on McLaughlin Group.

16. No problem...
IF he wanted to try to get some Hillary supporters, he should've chosen a pro-choice woman. If he wanted to show he's really a maverick, he should've chosen Lieberman or Ridge. He sold out.

13. It was a crap shoot and shoot from the hip pick for McCain, no vetting,
Rove had nothing to do with this, I am sure of that fact now, knowing McCain.

Here they are checking out the Hurricane Center in Alabama.

DOESN'T SHE LOOK PRESIDENTIAL????????

Notice the body language also.

McCain could've picked him if he was a maverick. He's a sell-out.

17. Here in PA, the repukes ran former football player Lynn Swann against Fast Eddie for Governor
thinking that "those (dumb) blacks" would vote for a black candidate no matter who it was. There was even a Rasmussen poll that had Swann leading Fast Eddie 45% - 43% and keeping them neck and neck for several months leading up to the election. Fast Eddie won the election 60% - 40%, with 89% of the black vote.

They will forever be stuck on stupid. :eyes:

I don't know any women who aren't pro-life. I assume you mean than Palin supports compulsory pregnancy, and government interference in doctor-patient confidentiality.
