Lincoln Chafee coming to Florida for Obama's campaign.
Hat tip to the Flobama section at FLA Politics blog

This gives me a warm feeling. I really like that guy.

Obama brings a Republican to Florida

Obama brings a Republican to Florida
Highlighting how critical independent and undecided Republican voters are, the Obama campaign is bringing former GOP Sen. Lincoln Chafee to Florida this week. Chafee, who endorsed Obama in February, is scheduled to appear in Fort Myers, Sarasota and St. Petersburg on Tuesday, and Orlando and The Villages on Wednesday. (details below)

As provided from the Obama campaign, which must think "republicans" is not a proper noun.

Ignore the snark. It is a requirement that Florida newspaper blogs be sarcastic about Democrats.

Good for Lincoln Chafee. This is a great thing.

3. nice
that's a bonus. I don't think many repukes respect him much, but I like him and I'm glad he's endorsing Obama.

5. I remember on election night 2006 when he lost, I felt bad for him.
He was the only Republican I was rooting for, only because he seemed so out of place in his party. He should have switched to the Democrats.

6. Yes. But he still had to be voted out to get a Democratic majority.
He would have given the committees back to the Republicans.

I like him.

7. Chafee is good people

I didn't agree with him on everything, but if he was the example of a true Republican in this day, I bet we could get a lot accomplished with them.

I am quite sure Palin's ascent to the VP nomination has done NOTHING to dissuade Lincoln from his decision in anyway. In fact, she probably inspired him to burn up his Republican card.

Lincoln is welcomed on our side.

Makes sense as well...Abe Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt would also likely be Democrats today. Ike would maybe be as well. Goldwater of all people even has lost the taste for these people. The only old school politician I could see being a Republican today would be Joe McCarthy unless you count German politicians.

13. Dwight D. Eisenhower would be ridden out of today's Repig party
on a rail, tarred and feathered, 5-star General of the Army or not. Ike was a thoughtful man of sound judgment and great statesmanship. He valued the life of every soldier he sent into battle and would never have asked them to sacrifice their all for a cause that was less than just.

Teddy Roosevelt would be calling down the curses of the heavens on modern Repigs and thundering against them at every possible opportunity.

17. It screams volumes that Susan, David and Julie (Nixon) Eisenhower
all publicly support Barack Obama. The Republican party in which they grew up is deader than Dillinger, and they know it. Ike would declare war on the modern Repig party. It is what he fought to defeat in WWII.

16. Heck, Teddy did just that to the Republicans
Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 12:33 AM by eshfemme
He was really old and blind in one eye when he tried running again after he broke with the Republicans but he was too late to enter into some of the primaries. So he basically formed his own party, the Bull Moose party, and went third party on them.

12. I remember when there were lots of decent moderate Repubs
like Lincoln Chafee. Fiscal conservatives/moderates who were socially moderate to progressive. We had many of them in Minnesota over the years. Senator David Durenberger (who gave Reagan fits about death squads in El Salvador), Governors Elmer L. Anderson, Harold LeVander, Al Quie, and Arne Carlson (Carlson and Anderson publicly endorsed Kerry in '04), Representatives Clark McGregor and Bill Frenzel and, most recently Jim Ramstead, who is retiring this year and has worked tirelessly to include mental health/addiction benefits in all insurance, which he and the sainted Paul Wellstone co-sponsored in the House and Senate, respectively.

What happened to the Repukes? The people I list above were all decent human beings who never demonized their opponents and with whom one could respectfully disagree. They were all classic "good government" types who tried to better the public and civic condition. They believed in the common good, public education, and opportunity, fairness and justice for all.

The only possible explanation is religious insanity, and it's time to call that what it is, INSANITY!

15. Growing up, I knew my family were mostly Republicans...
But it didn't matter because we cared about all the same things.

That changed with Bush and Rove.
