What does Rove really have up his sleeve with the Palin pick?
Alright, obviously there must be some other tricks up Rove's sleeve. Are they throwing this election to leave the Dems to clean it up? Are they worried about losing their culture war, so they're trying to re-litigate it again? Thoughtful discussion would be very appreciated. :patriot:

1. I believe they really thought the fundies would stay home on Nov. 4
...interesting.

It's not like they would vote for Obama!

Maybe they are going for the CATHOLIC
vote because Biden scared them.

2. Maybe they're tossing McCain? Not too late for that.
The convention is temporarily postponed, and they haven't let the Veep Choice speak freely to the media yet.

4. That would be my guess.
This will piss off the power elite and he may get the boot during the convention.

Or a worse nightmare, bush doesn't intend to let there be an election this Nov.

5. Muzzling Palin makes her appear even worse
Gives the impression that the McCain camp is rapidly trying to prep her for the media.

3. Nothing. It's just craptacular. Why can't people stop looking for the OMGWE'REDOOMED thing?
Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 12:35 AM by BlooInBloo
Sheesh.

EDIT: I guess when it comes right down to it, people really don't believe we can win.

11. Rove throwing the election is one of the reasons to discuss
Kind of goes against your "OMG WE'RE DOOMED" thing and "people really don't believe we can win" talking point. Obviously I do believe that Obama will win, but I think that the Republican Party is acting very peculiar here. My guess is that they are trying to bring the culture war back front and center to the national debate, and Palin is a great choice to do it. In my opinion, the Republicans have been slowly losing ground on their culture war and maybe they need something radical to shake things up. Also, the Democratic Party has always been considered the party for women, so maybe the Republicans are finally trying to fight back on that point?

6. Rove wants to win this
He needs another Rethug administration in there to destroy all the evidence. By the end of McCain's first term, the nation will be in such deep shit there won't be any fixing it ... but the conservatives will have sucked all the cash out that can be extracted. Think Chile or Agentina in the 1970s and 80s. We'll have all that here, soon.

13. Palin has already taken the reference to Hillary Clinton out of her stump speech
Just two days after becoming the V.P. pick. Seems like she needs to find a way to continue acknowledging and praising Hillary's accomplishments if she wants to appeal to Hillary supporters.

8. It's a sop to the religious right, and they want a backlash against "Babygate" (his current plan.)

That is why I feel we need to drop the issue (the second, most definetly not the first.)

9. I think they are trying to both lower the tone of the campaigns and also lower expectations
If the topic of the day is back to National Inquirer stuff, McCain could still win with a simple "Ronald Reagan" device like... "There you go again!". It's effective, it's a hail mary and it might be McCain's only chance... get himself thoroughly attacked and rise up, right near the end, with a real zinger!

Personally, I'd buy a lottery ticket - it would have a better chance of winning now that sending a dollar to McCain.

16. 1-week grace period to talk about V.P. non-stop
There you go!

Anyway, the attention is SUPPOSED to be on the Republicans this week just like last week it was supposed to be on the Democrats.

12. If this *is* a Rovian ploy, here's my take on it
If you notice, McShame didn't pick any of the real up and coming Rethugs--you know, people who actually have a future in the party. Whatever the outcome of this election, McShame is done. Palin is expendable. I think, if this is Rovian, the plan is to give McShame the rope to hang himself and then Rove will have a more viable candidate in four years to run against Obama/Biden. In their minds, four years is like a drop in the bucket in the master plan of Rove's game.

Sacrifice one election to save the future of their Party.
