Not To Minimalize Gustav, But IT Appears Damage Will Be As Low AS Possible
Catagory 3 hurricanse are nothing to sneeze at, but this one appears to have tracked in a way where damage will be minimalized.

That's a good thing for the folks of New Orleans. Not so good for the folks to the West of New Orleans.

Now the question comes, will McCain spend the better part of the week looking for damage to use as a backdrop when accepting his nomination or will he go to the Twin Cities?

5. Note the difference
Between the republican response to a disaster in the run up to an election versus republican response to a disaster after an election (Katrina).

It is fortunate for the residents of the gulf coast, that Gustav is perhaps a somewhat weaker storm. But it is vastly more fortunate that Gustav is paying a visit 8 weeks prior to an election.

The 700 busses sent to evacuate people this time existed in 2005, just no one sent them.

12. I did not get any money
but I did get ice. After Andrew, Florida had a pretty good storm prep effort on its own. Not all that much was needed from the Feds. The feds did slather the money about. Damage claims were being paid to folks in counties that were not affected by any of the storms.

Georgie nearly slept through the 4 in FL, because he could. Virtually no other state had such preparations. Plenty of people knew this to include Brownie and Ridge. Plenty of people knew well in advance that a Katrina type storm in NOLA would be a major disaster.

Just like "Bin Laden determined to strike US" this was just another memo Georgie did not have some one read to him.

6. Looks like landfall will be in a sparsely populated area well west of NO.
So is McCain going to give his acceptance speech from some flooded desolate swampland?

7. Thank God for that.
Any time damage and injury can be minimized, it's a good thing.

13. Then it will be great news for us all the way around.
If no one is hurt and damage is minimal, then all Gustav will have done is remind people of Bush's response to Katrina and also disrupt the Republican convention. That would be the best news.
