Palin has gained at least one Alabama voter for Obama/Biden |
|
You may have seen previous posts about my redneck buddy Carl. Short on formal education, but very intelligent. And just a hell of a nice guy.
Several months ago he served up the jaw-dropper that he was a Hillary supporter. He was always a fan of Bill. But when Obama got the nomination, Carl balked. "I just don't think I can bring myself to vote for a black man." That gut reaction is still ingrained in some segments of Alabama's citizens. At least he was honest about it.
Last night he hit me with another jaw dropper. "What the hell was McCain thinking when he picked that woman for vice-president? That did it for me. Obama's got my vote. I don't think either one will make it through the four years. McCain is sick, and some crazy nut will probably kill Obama. So you gotta vote for the vice-president who will be taking over. I'd a hell of a lot rather have Biden running things than that woman."
Now you can question his motives, and say he's doing the right thing for the wrong reasons, but it's a vote. Wonder how many others Palin will drive to Obama?

1. Quite a few, I'd think |

remember that your average Republican voter often sees women as creatures that should stay in the home, not be a part of the national picture at all. President of the PTA is fine; President of the US--no way.

2. Imagine their pain: A woman or a black? A woman or a black? |
|
Hopefully a lot of the knuckle-draggers will just stay home in disgust at how progressive America is becoming.

A black guy or a jewish dude?
Man, those poor bigots would have had quite the dilemma.

3. As I live in Alabama... |

I have been wondering how this was going to pan out. There are so many racists still here, but there are just as many sexist/misogynists. Which gets precedence here? I think many will just sit it out and vote for neither. My boss and wife, who have supported monkeyboy for years, are going to vote for Obama/Biden. They are smart enough to know we cant afford 4 more years.

5. With Carl, I think it's more her lack of experience than sexism. |

He thought Hillary was one of the smartest people he knew and his business partner is his wife. "She's my guard dog", he says. "Keeps me out of trouble." By that he means that she rides herd on the financial end of the business. Makes sure they're square with the IRS, and that he doesn't bid on any contracts that might be a money loser for them. They have a disaster cleanup business and will be headed for NOLA in the morning.
