From David Hulen in Anchorage --

Lots of people are scrambling to learn more about Palin. Among the questions we've been getting are request for her positions on this national issue and that national issue. The fact is that Palin, as governor, hasn't had to develop or present positions on a lot of national issues.

Here's a candidate survey we published in October 2006, shortly before the election. We sent out written questions to candidates, and they returned responses.

7. Do you support or oppose the use of public funds for abortion (e.g., paying for abortion, promoting abortion, subsidizing organizations that provide or refer for abortion)?
I oppose the use of public funds for elective abortions.

8. Would you introduce - or, if introduced by a legislator, would you support - a bill to adopt the death penalty in Alaska? If yes, which crimes should it apply to?
If the Legislature were to pass a bill that established a death penalty on adults who murder children, I would sign it.

1. My immediate thought was
she's in favor of executing doctors who perform abortions. Don't know if she'd also want to execute the women as well. So much for being "pro-life".

2. The media should question her about this before her "handlers" muddle her response.

8. Agreed. I worry about what looks likes a general slide
toward blood lust in American culture. It isn't just the right wing. Our society focuses mostly on manifestations of this in television, movies, video games, (fantasy, IOW), but not so much on real life situations like, the DP, torture, war, etc. We need more discussion on the effects that acceptance of violence towards individuals who commit heinous acts has on us as a society, and not just whether such-and-such sociopath deserves violent punishment. I realize, unfortunately, that this is an increasingly unpopular point of view. Those of us who worry about this are often made out to be "elitists" or "weak".

7. Don'tcha love "pro-lifers!?" Big on guns, war, and death penalty. Amen, and pass the ammunition.
They never get the lack of all logic in that: Protect embryos and kill adults.
