CSPAN 1 on-screen info says it's covering the rep convention, but they are

actually covering an Obama speech in Detroit, live.

I had to laugh when I saw the difference between the on-screen information and what they were actually showing.

I also have to say--I'm a bit disappointed at the fact that I'm not going to get to laugh and shake my head at one last incredibly bad bush speech or shudder at an evil cheney speech. Too bad, that would have been comedy gold.

Does anyone know if McCain is still planning on accepting the nom (what day? Thursday?) via satellite? What would be the point of that then? Surely by then, he could be in Minnesota?

1. Gustav spared New Orleans,.
it will not be another Katrina. Just a lot of rain and relatively moderate wind. The levees are holding well. So they can all show up now.

While God made a big and timely point to the GOP, at the same time he robbed them of a chance to grandstand.

4. True.
Question: the major news channels seem almost to be hyperventilating to cover Gustav instead of the convention, why is that?

Bush is JUST NOW flying to Austin. WTF? Dude is taking a vacation. Cheney is probably flying to Wyoming.

Oh WAIT! MSNBC showing a reporter at an almost empty convention hall with no one outside. He said the business today will last 2 1/2 hours. Laura Bush and Cindy McCain will speak to the delegates about relief efforts.

It's looking like a HUGE overresponse to a smallish storm. I think it makes their non-response to Katrina look even worse and I didn't think that was possible.

7. Really good, of course.
He still seems to be on fire from the convention.

6. Reporter:
"They don't want anything to appear celebratory, they don't want anything to be political." He was talking about the GOP and their convention.

8. It was originally planned for Thursday.
I think they will change that being that that is the first day of football season. The hurricane will give them cover to reschedule.

12. Thursday is the first day of the NFL season?
I didn't know that.

I also just heard Palin is writing her speech now and they aren't sure when she'll give it, but "maybe Wednesday."

I'm sorry, it just cracks me up. They seem to be in disarray in their extreme attempts to look like they care.

9. Probably just filling in. When there's no convention activity they run other stuff.
Glad to hear they're putting Obama speeches into the gaps. Hope they keep it up.

10. Yep, I finally saw the mostly empty convention hall
on another channel. There's maybe a few dozen people in there setting up.
