Obama clears Tuesday schedule

Carrie Budoff Brown:

Barack Obama nixed his schedule for Tuesday to return to Chicago to "closely monitor the hurricane," his campaign announced today.

Obama is keeping his full schedule today in Michigan, where he will hold three events. He was expected to spend the night in Milwaukee, and make a retail stop in the area tomorrow, but will instead return to Chicago tonight.

1. I hope he makes some sort of statement about how he couldn't ignore
the importance of Labor Day to this nation's workers, knowing that the hurricane preparations
were well in hand. Hopefully, that will defuse any McCain bullshit about it.

Meanwhile, McCain is blowing off our celebration of workers in order to be the fake president when he is not really DOING anything for the
victims. :puke:

2. Obama Camp Statement on Talk With FEMA

Obama Camp Statement on Talk With FEMA

From the Obama campaign:

Senator Obama spoke this morning with Herbie Johnson, the Deputy Director of FEMA, and was briefed on the status of Hurricane Gustav and the people who may live in its path. Senator Obama was told that evacuation efforts are going well, although officials are still concerned about flooding and will not know the exact extent of the damage for several more hours. The Senator asked about the adequacy of temporary housing for those who have fled the storm. He was told that most are being made comfortable in temporary quarters in Texas, Arkansas and Tennessee. Senator Obama will be closely monitoring the situation throughout the day.
