BREAKING: MSNBC - Palin daughter (16) is pregnant |
|
http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/09/01/1318541.aspx Well.. shit is about to officially hit the fan. But, this does negate the Trig rumors.. she can't be 5 months pregnant AND have had Trig back in April.. the math doesn't work. So, that's officially dead now (right??).

Seriously, no-one will care. Fundies will sympathize, since most of them have similar situations in their families. Probably another chance for Palin to burnish her pro-life cred.
And Dems? Well, they're not SUPPOSED to get outraged about pre-marital sex - though sometimes around here you start to wonder...

Is the Palin Family an example of conservative values? And did she fail to mention this to John during the phone call, "Oh, and by the way, there's this teensy family issue I didn't bring up."

A parent does not exert total control over their teen-age daughter.
This is understood by everyone.
This doesn't stain Palin at all.

Palin would require "abstinence only" education for every American kid -- and now we see that in her case, abstinence only really didn't work. Unless she stands up in the next 24 hours and says, "I was wrong - condoms for everybody" then its hypocrisy.
Palin will be dropping out of the race either today or tomorrow.

Teenage sex is not even slightly consistent with conservative religious values. That's why they push "abstinence only" sex education. They don't WANT kids having safe sex -- they don't want them having sex AT ALL. So the fact that Palin is pushing "abstinence only" on America WHEN SHE KNOWS FOR A FACT that it didn't work on her own kid is pretty fucking hypocritical.

And you still need a dictionary.
"So the fact that Palin is pushing "abstinence only" on America WHEN SHE KNOWS FOR A FACT that it didn't work on her own kid is pretty fucking hypocritical."
No it isn't.
It means she supports an idea that she knows doesn't work. That's not hypocrisy. Its stupidity. It's the basis of the faith-based world view.
There's a difference.
Palin thinks and advocates that you don't tell your child about birth control but you tell them to not have sex and hope they don't. If she gets knocked up, you make her marry the guy and hope for the best. See? What part of "faith-based" don't you understand?
If Palin put her daughter on the pill while telling you not to put your daughter on the pill, that would be hypocrisy.
If Palin let or made her daughter have an abortion while telling you not to permit your daughter to have an abortion, that would be hypocrisy.
Palin's actions and words are consistent. She does not appear to be applying a different standard for herself or her family than she advocates for you and your family. Hence, no hypocrisy.
Tons and tons of stupidity, though.
Palin may withdraw or sink, but it won't be because of this. It will be because she is completely unqualified.

Stupidity is when you DON'T KNOW that something won't work and you advocate it anyway.
Hypocrisy is when you KNOW that something won't work and you advocate it anyway (bonus points for demanding that others should do the same).
Putting your kid on the pill and saying "Don't have sex" is not hypocrisy. It's called family planning. I don't want my teenaged daughter to have sex (and I tell her as much), but I know that she might do it anyway, so I'm going to have her on the pill so she doesn't get pregnant even if she makes a bad choice.
What you're suggesting is that providing birth control to your kids promotes sexual activity.
Which is precisely what the fundies say.
Which is why you are, and will always remain, an idiot.

A ton of conservatives have children who don't live up to mommy and daddy's ideal.
This isn't new.
The truth is, unplanned pregnancies are a part of American life regardless of the politics of the parents.
This is my take anyway.
Can you think of an example when the actions or behavior of a politician or political figure's CHILD actually altered public opinion of the politician? It may lead to some minor embarrassment, but little else comes of it.
Maybe this time will be different, but I doubt it.

How much longer could she use (holding) Trig as a prop to hide her stomach??
My guess: That photo from McCain's daughter's blog was NOT meant to be taken and out out for public consumption. The one where they show a profile of a pregnant Bristol holding Trig.
If you go to the blog, every picture after that one is of all the other Palin kids...not one of Bristol. But it was too late. The pregnant profile had already spread across the 'net.
That and the ring on her wedding finger picture.

25. Wow. I almost feel bad for the Palin family.... in Wasilla it seems |
|
that they could control/dominate things - even tried to import that attitude/behavior to the governorship. National media scrutiny - a whole other ball game. I seriously doubt that they wanted to get this out there and public.
On the one hand it makes Gov Palin a little sympathetic. On the other hand it raises interesting questions on the parenthood front (ala the decisions during texas flight /postponing delivery) - not to mention if daughter was kept out of school in the Spring for mono... guess no one was monitoring what she was doing at home all that time - if they were, and she was spening such "quality time" with her boyfriend, then why didn't they send her back to school?

"about five months pregnant." is not the same as 5 months pregnant. There are tons of examples of mothers who have gotten pregnant again right away and have babies 9 months apart. So I wouldn't say it's off the table or out of the realm of possibilities.

34. I know this won't be popular - whack me, |
|
But while I don't care if it is pursued or not, no, I don't consider the story about "who is Sarah Palin's baby" to be a dead end (even if it is prounounced officially dead). It smells bad - the whole water breaking, long flight to AK, premature birth, no confirmable signs of pregnancy (except that pillow used near the end - joke. Kind of), and all the people who knew her who seemed to flat out disbelieve it.
I'd say that if she thought she could either cover up Bristol's unwed pregnancy (to save her family values, "abstinence, no sex ed and no birth control really really works" platform), I'd bet she would be willing to do the same for another family member. Is Bristol the only daughter? Does her sister (of trooper gate divorce brawl fame) have daughters? At this stage, I am just curious.
This news just confirms that the fundie position regarding birth control and abstinence are abject failures - in fact, there could be no better example of that then a failure like this happening in Palin's family. She argues that we all should adopt her failing policy on reproduction, from no choice to no birth control to no condoms even for married people.
Unfortuneately for her, her situation proves her policy doesn't work and should not ever be forced on others who don't agree with her views.

if the daughter was well enough to spend time with her boyfriend ('cause we aren't talking immaculate conception), why was she still being kept home from school for mono? Who was paying attention to what she was doing, and why was there such a disregard for her education?
To read social conservatives take on why kids do poorly (esp those living in poverty) - it is often blamed on the parent. Doubt they will do that here - but... she was kept out of school for 5-8 months - and during that time (it would seem) got pregnant.
