Is the Palin pick a scam?

McCain Gets $7 Million Bounce from Palin Pick

By Matthew Mosk
Sen. John McCain has taken in $7 million in contributions since announcing Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate, a top campaign aide said today.

The money bounce may owe to Palin's appeal with conservative donors, many of whom said privately they had planned on sitting out the campaign this year. The money comes in just under the wire -- after McCain accepts the GOP nomination Thursday, he will accept public funds and no longer be permitted to raise private money for the campaign.
(The emphasis is mine)

Think about this. He picks someone who will appeal to the fundy base, but has a numer of scandals brewing. The fundy appeal brings in loads of money right before the fund raising deadline, then the scandals can be used as a reason to change his decision.

Was this done to raise money while he still can? Will he soon drop her due to all of the controversy? It's probably too wacky to be true, but it would explain this ridiculous pick.

2. No scam, but now McCain would be in big trouble if he doesnt choose her
Those donors who gave because she is on the ticket wont be happy if McCain does the right thing (for his campaign) and booted her off the ticket.

He's stuck now.

7. It can be done in a such a way that they won't blame McCain.
If Palin makes the decision rather than McCain, and if she drops out because those evil liberals were picking on her daughter, then those donors won't be angry at McCain, they'll be angry at the evil liberals.

6. But energizing their most radical base while turning off everyone else won't win the election.
What it can do is raise money. He can then change to a more reasonable running mate who will appeal to a wider base.
