So -- maybe I was wrong. Did McCain/Palin actually plan this?? |
|
Okay... I don't want to believe this is true. I really, really don't want to believe anyone would consider doing something like this.
McCain knew Bristol was pregnant, unmarried, and a teen.
By looking at her it is obvious she is pregnant. There would be no way to avoid people figuring it out, especially if she ever went campaigning for her mother as some adult children of candidates do, and even some teen children.
So what if he, Rove, and the rest of the GOP insiders decided that to make the news about her daughter's pregnancy seem positive rather than negative, that they would spread a really vicious rumor that was much, much worse than a person's daughter simply getting pregnant when the family is pro-life and preaches abstinence only?
It also helps highlight one of the things that Obama said that (while I actually agree with) made him look really bad to social conservatives.
Remember the whole "If one of my daughters was to make a mistake I don't want her punished with a baby?" (paraphrase, didn't Google the exact quote) mess?
--------
As I said, I don't want to believe this. Many have said they feel Palin's choice to accept the nomination when her child was unwed and pregnant was incredibly stupid and wrong. It would be even more wrong to have done this deliberately -- not just stupid or naive.
But if it was done on purpose.... it was certainly effective.

They've gotten everything they want, now they're going to lay low while Obama rebuilds America so they can tear it down again.
