CNN just reported on the Palin baby story.....and is burying it
Not reported on by Blitzer or anyone on the main stage but by Candy Crowley off to the side-in the press area standing with no one around her. Very quiet, hushed in tone.

Cut back to Wolf and he turns to his right to ask the special guest who they had just told the dear story about her packing up and moving her family out of rotten old DC to New Orleans because she had always loved it so much....Mary Matalin.

Wolf then said that Obama (pitch perfect) says that he too is the son of a teenage mother and basically that his campaign will make nothing of it.

Wolf then said that this was the result of internet rumors about Palin's 5th child and Matalin got a minute to painfully lament how horrible these terrible rumors were and just how awful Palin was being treated.

Cut to Donna Brazille and more about New Orleans.

They are going to try to let the hurricane wash it away. Candy Crowley did say that she was hearing small comments about this at the convention.

That is it.

1. AFTER Obama excoriated the media over pushing it
They were pushing hard until Obama told them to cut it out.

2. You must have missed the best part- Matalin gave Obama big props for his strong statement
Obama just looks even classier today, even to the right wing media.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=6857774&mesg_id=6857774

but this we actually knew about on Friday-Glen Greenwald broke it on Thom Hartman's show --read here

This is going to be around. This tears the footing out from under the whole thing.

4. Ehh.. wait for the Hurricane to downgrade...
Right now if they look to eager to talk about it over the possible "death and distruction" of this hurricane, they would look horrible.

Let it build up some steam over the next couple of days.. along with the Bridge to Nowhere.. etc. It will be PART of the bigger story - that Palin wasn't vetted, and McCain is being questioned on his judgement.

Also, once the poll numbers show that he's down 8 - 10 over the past week and after his announcement of Palin as VP, they'll start asking if it's the pregnancy, inexperience, etc.

And, MSNBC won't bury it quite as quick.. Fox won't talk about it at all.. and CNN will see what the temprature of the story is out in the real world.

5. It should get at least equal coverage to the Edwards affair.
It involves a current candidate who is running based on her moral values and experience as a mother.

12. I think it'll take care of itself
The cats out of the bag, and despite the extensive discussion of it on her and places like Kos, i didn't see anyone saying bad things about Bristol Palin. This wouldn't be an issue at all if it wasn't for the right constantly making reproductive morality and education a signature issue. They've made their bed, now they'll have to lie in it.

6. Let it go
Its not the story. The story is McSame is more of the same. The race is between Obama and McSame. Sidetrack from that and we lose our key advantage. People are sick and tired of the same. Even those who can't bring themselves to vote for Obama are sick of it all. Staple McSame to Bush and they will simply stay home in disgust rather than vote.

10. I saw that. Obama himself SHOULD stay above the fray, but the reality is that he, unlike
Palin, is FOR women's rights and his mother was apparently very progressive. Let the "independent groups" get the messsage out. We need the ultra-RWers to hear about it.

15. It is good that the story is being buried
The story is just a distraction to the real issue: that McCain is clueless and that he has nothing to offer the American people.

22. They dispatched Kyra Phillips to Anchorage
and she has just been talking for the last 5 minutes including Palin's strong positions against condoms and for abstinance...concluding that this all goes to Palin and McCain's decision making. It was the longest report I have seen in a long time.

Bill Bennett just brought up Rezko and Wm. Ayers then tried got upset that the Center for Reproductive Rights was part of the Kyra's report, Blitzer actually took him on on it
