Obama and Biden on question re blue collar guys and beer
John McCain runnng-mate Sarah Palin's husband is a member of the United Steelworkers' Union, Obama was reminded in an interview aired by CBS' 60 Minutes. "Blue collar guy. Got a son on the way to Iraq,'' interviewer Steve Kroft told Obama. "It seems like just the kind of person who would appeal to voters in states that you absolutely have to win, And they have to win."

""Well, look,'' Obama replied. "I am happy if this ends up being a referendum on what's going to be good for blue collar workers. I'll put my guy, Joe Biden, up against anybody when it comes to fighting on behalf of those families, because he's been there. He comes out of Scranton, Pennsylvania. He's been fightin' for those folks ever since he got into the Senate. And he hasn't stopped. And he hasn't forgotten where he's come from.

"You know, I think we really underestimate people in the neighborhood. In the neighborhoods I came from, you came from. I really think we underestimate them," said Biden, the Democratic senator from Delaware nominated as Obama's running mate, joining him in the interview. "People get it. I think they're looking for more than whether or not Joe Biden's from Scranton and she hunts. I think that's you know, 'What ya gonna do about it?'"

""But you tried really hard to reach these people,'' Kroft pressed. "You went and sipped beer, which I know you don't particularly like - I mean you even...

"Steve, I had a beer last night,'' Obama interjected. "I mean, where do these stories come from, man?"

"I'm the one... doesn't drink," Biden added.

1. Todd may be part of the Steelworkers Union
but he is in no way shape or form a steelworker. He is a plant operator for BP in Prudhoe Bay and makes between $120-140,000 a year depending on OT and such.
The only reason they have a union is because back in the 80's BP was going to cut the work week from 7 days a week(shift worker) to 6 days a week so the operators voted to unionize. ARCO at the the time saw what happened and decided to match what BP was getting if their operators did not go union. Hence, Todd is a union man.
