Hurricane Histrionics: they still don't get it. Plus a dilemma. |
|
So the incompetence of the dc cabal, the texas oil mafia running our nation, is once again on grand display in their now comical overreaction to Hurricane Gustav. The Bush Gang went into full bunker mode, which as it is a media event only, means that George gets to take his tie off and gets to wear his blue shirt too. The convention's Monday sessions got shut down to a minimum, with neither Bush nor Cheney giving their speeches (for which a thankfull nation breathed a collective sigh of relief), as they were way too busy holding media spectacles looking presidential while presiding over the non-disaster in the gulf.
They don't get it. With Katrina, disaster at hand, people drowning, they were off celebrating Gramp's birthday and were too damn busy to take care of all those drowning looters. George finally did a fly over, while the nation waited in horror for a massively incompetent federal emergency management authority to get its shit together and rescue the good people of a major american city.
With Gustav, no disaster at hand, the government was in full emergency response mode to, well, nothing much at all.
Here is the clue they seem to be lacking: your response is supposed to be reality based. We expect our government to react appropriately to the situation as it is. If there is a disaster and a city floods and its people are drowning, get your ass and your gear down there and rescue our people. If there isn't a disaster, stop posing for the fucking cameras like there is one. Stop your goddamn stupid pandering!
Gramp's campaign team is rumored to be considering wheeling the ancient one down to NO for his acceptance speech. Exactly why a big rainstorm would be a good reason to visit a city has not been explained, but they have another problem. Hanna is threatening Cat-1 non-disaster on the good citizens of Florida. What is Gramps going to do with that? Dare he continue the convention while Florida gets wet? Would not that be insulting to the people of Florida? Might he have to accept the nomination twice, once in New Orleans and once in Miami?

2. Category 1 is still a hurricane. As we've all learned to our dismay in recent |
|
years, oftentimes it's the storm surge and flooding from rainfall that do the most damage regardless of wind speeds. How much acres of wetland have been turned into developments since the last hurricane to hit Florida and South Carolina? Barrier islands (i.e. wide sand bars) are a favorite spot for gated communities of mini-mansions.

4. Would you have preferrred that they hadn't prepared, and it hit as the 4 or 5 they were predicting? |

These "woes is us, it wasn't a disaster" posts are...misguided, at best. The weather experts were expecting a monster storm as recently as yesterday. The fact that is didn't turn out that way is something to be happy about, not turned into political gamesmanship.
Hindsight is certainly 20/20. Funny how everyone suddenly became a weather expert *after* the storm weakened.
