Even My non-Political Husband...
My husband eschews political discussion. He pulls the trigger on the right candidate so I don't hound him. But it makes him uncomfortable, driving around in my Obama-magnet-sporting Prius. He just doesn't talk or do politics, thinks it's not polite. Plus, according to him, it makes me "all spun up". That, I cannot argue with him.

But even he is shaking his head in disbelief. "Why on earth did he choose this woman?"

His parents are the same way too. They will vote for Obama, but won't donate money or do anything else to help the campaign. They are non-political beings. They are confused about why McCain made this choice. My MIL said, "I think this is a setup. I think they're trying to lose."

My SIL, who is every bit as political as I am is cackling happy. "Bring it!" and "He's completely crazy!"

It's a befuddling choice. Why?

I told my husband that I think Steve Schmidt had Pawlenty all picked out for McCain, but that McCain himself called Palin and asked her. I strongly suspect that he intended to buck the Rovian choice, to make it look like he's a maverick, but he has grossly and crazily miscalculated.

Even my hubby said, "This is his first big decision as a Presidential candidate. How could he screw it up so badly? What does it say about his judgment?"

1. The religious right talked him into it, I think. And he's so stupid, he fell for it, thinking
that Hawt Miss Mooseburgers was just the sort of "celebrity" his ticket needed to win. He respects her about as much as he respects Cindy, which is to say, he'll use her for whatever votes he can get, and then he wants her to go to the Naval Observatory and shut up and look pretty.

2. My 76 year old Republican mother made the same observation
She said it was an insult to all Americans to pick someone so clearly unqualified...
And that was before the teen pregnancy and Troopergate...

A lot of older Republicans and Independents are calling this what it is, a "gimmick"!

6. my 80 yr old mom just emailed me
and said they need to stick to issues and not just being a woman...and said they did sarah because of hillary.

my mom is just like most americans, only has the most basic cable, no cnn, no fox, no msnbc, she sees her news on abc, nbc, cbs and the newspapers, she only goes online for email is afraid of the big bad internets...(well thats more like seniors)

i will say she said she heard about sarah and a baby and didn't understand until i emailed her. so what i would guess is most americans who don't even know her are confused by it unless they are online.

3. I love that I've talked to some republicans who have decided
to just stay home. They were sort of lukewarm on McCain, but Palin is such a mess, they're staying home.

WHOOOO HOOOOOO!!!!

Now I hope she gets off the ticket (more drama) and he puts Holy Joe on there (more mess).

5. my husband is close to like that also
he hates politics but lets me choose who to vote for so i don't bug him too much. He thinks it stirs me all up. I mentioned the latest with sarah and baby stuff and he just laughed and shook his head.

Unlike your husband though mine gave up on country after they picked Bush for second time. He thinks america is stupid and will pick anyone not caring who it is. Its like he is convinced we are a country of people with 6th grade or less education.

I would love to prove him wrong this time...
