GOP platform breaks with McCain on abortion rights- want no exceptions. None
Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 05:27 PM by Beaverhausen
ST. PAUL, Minn. - Republican National Convention delegates have adopted a platform that is at odds with certain nominee John McCain on abortion rights.

The nonbinding document calls for an outright ban on abortion. It doesn't include exceptions allowing abortion in cases of rape, incest or where a mother's life would be in danger. Those exceptions all are favored by McCain.

The platform approved during Monday's truncated opening convention session also highlights a difference between McCain and his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. She opposes abortion in all cases.

Convention delegates also adopted a rule Monday to keep the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary at the front of their presidential nominating calendar.

4. Oh goodie
Let that plank be adopted by the Pugs. Let Olbermann and Maddow know about it and expose that the Pugs want you to die rather than abort the fetus which is endangering your life. Patricia Heaton might vote for that but most American, sane women won't.

6. The religious right nut-cases are not going to give up their hold on that party.
at least, not without a fight, and McSame has shown he is caving in with the Palin pick.

7. This platform is tougher on abortion than the Catholic Church and the Lutheran Church MO Synod.
The republican party is going to scare off all but the most extreme people on this.

9. The RW fundies are still not playing nice with J. McSame.
This had to be one of the compromises in forcing him to select Palin, but they're not giving in. This should be interesting.

10. Their purpose is to allow McCain to say he is more moderate than the party.
Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 06:15 PM by DefenseLawyer
Despite being anti abortion his whole career he has still been able to muddy the water so many think he is pro-choice. Letting him say he is more moderate than the party helps him with independents. He's the maverick, remember?
