CNN lowering the bar for Palin the VP debate again.
Saying how "careful" Joe Biden needs to be. He needs to chew her up and spit her the hell out.

1. all he has to do
is come off as the guy more qualified. Answer a question, switch it around to something she knows nothing about. Just don't come off as pompous, jerk, etc.

2. They said if she can just say anything that shows she knows more than
people think she knows, like who the President of Uzbekistan is, she'll be okay.

So pass 10th grade geography and you too, qualify to be VP.

6. I saw that too, pissed me off.
" We all know how Joe Biden can be....she will be going into the debate with low expectations, however, which could work in her favor." Only low expectations bc that is what the MEDIA is telling us to have. McCain had THREE EXTRA MONTHS to find the most qualified VP possible, I hate the "warnings" that the media is already giving to Biden.

7. If she had even an ounce of pride she'd rip the media to shreds for that.
Because she's against affirmative action dontcha know?

9. She wants to play with the big boys then she needs to suck it up!
This is where I get angry because she needs no special consideration by Biden or anyone else.

10. It's called Affirmative Action!!!!
There are many African-Americans who are consistently appalled at how much farther white women get with the "Affirmative Action" card than black men or women do.

But you're all seeing it for what it is. If you are going to hire someone in order to meet an Affirmative Action quota, and your choice is between someone female, cute, white and boffable, and a black guy who's nice but....... you don't want him looking at your daughter, then unless you actually need a scapegoat, or you're convinced that a male is required, you're probably going to choose the woman.

Yup, I know... I said something racist again... or sexist. Or racist and sexist.

But human nature is NOT politically correct. Bill Clinton was not all hot and bothered over any of the black male interns. (There was no scandal about a group of black male pages either, in case you need to go there.)

It's going to be a painful part of this year's election.

When you pit an older, experienced white woman (Clinton), against a young, energetic, less experienced black man (Obama), then it might be a toss up. But when the white woman is perky, cute, has nice legs, can do the motherhood-and-apple-pie schtick, AND DOESN'T MIND BEING LEERED AT, then the black guy doesn't have a chance.

Please notice that Palin isn't even trying to play the "I am an experienced candidate and I expect to be taken seriously" card. Not even close. She practically GIGGLES at the issue of whether she's experienced. She's not, she knows she's not, she doesn't even try to gloss over it. SHE DOESN'T HAVE TO!!!! She just bats eyelashes, recrosses legs in the other direction, puckers lips and smiles.

And men smile back. Do they even stop to think that McCain could die in office? Nah... it's not what's on their minds right this minute by any stretch.

Now, what are the WOMEN thinking? They think she's "nice". Even though she hunts and fishes, she's not "aggressive".

Call me chicken little, but it's going to work unless we find some OTHER way to stop this, BESIDES the issues and scandals. I don't know what will do it, but there must be something that will sour her for the evangelists - other than a lesbian affair with another prom queen. I hope we find it soon.

12. They may be appalled and there may be anecdotes supporting that
but the statistics in general completely contradict your first paragraph. For example, admissions committees at many top universities do in fact give preference to blacks over whites because of their underrepresented status and lower standardized test scores but women must score as highly or more highly than men in order to be admitted. Check out the U. of Michigan cases and footnotes if you question this.

Please don't say sexist things in order to combat sexist or racist behavior by others.

And your examples and logic really don't support the conclusion you want to draw. For example, Pres. Clinton didn't give a great job opportunity to Monica Lewinsky. In fact, she was involuntarily transferred from her low level job because people wanted to get her away from Clinton. That's a pretty strange version of affirmative action benefiting women or some subgroup of them.

The situation here involves Republican political decisions. That's what you should be attacking.

13. It's okay that you are missing my point.
Having a committee that makes hiring decisions is one of the ways in which sexist hiring is fought. Admissions is a controlled activity with many, many checks and balances. No such checks and balances come into play when it comes to American presidential voting patterns.

I think what you're not seeing is that this IS about a Republican political decision, and the Republican thought process, which is NEVER politically correct.

It's a simple question: given the choice between a nice black guy and a nice white "girl" (emphasis on girl is on purpose), who will America pick?

The intelligent choice is the one with the most experience for the job.

But that's NOT how we pick our presidents. If you think so, PLEASE remind yourself who got at least 45% of the votes for the past 2 elections.

A lot of America is still sexist, and a lot of America is still racist. It's fine to let Obama take the high road, but ignoring basic truths won't win the election.

If you really want to win, you have to stop believing that there is a place in this election for "political correctness". If you won't bloody your nose, then you don't want to win. When it's a fight to the death, it's not time to worry about whether a referee calls foul.

I've dealt with discrimination as a woman, and I've seen more racism than I want to think about. Both are ugly, both are real, and both still occur in this America. Michelle Obama would tell you in a heartbeat if she wasn't too busy clamping her mouth shut and pretending that discrimination doesn't happen any more.

Oh, and I hope you got upset when you saw all of the VPILF threads that came around on Friday. From DUers. And as sexist as it gets. I was being nice when I said "boffable".

But it's okay. Call me on it. I gave up political correctness once I saw what it did. It shoves racists and sexists into a closet, so that you don't see them until it's too late. Then, when things go horribly wrong, it just takes a bit longer to figure out why you didn't get a certain job or a certain promotion, or why the sales lady is extra solicitous - and following you around the store... or why you get arrested for speeding instead of just getting a ticket.

Is it possible that you haven't lived it? You see, every feminist woman my age will tell you that after you hit 50, or if you were never "attractive", that's when you NEED Affirmative Action... oh, and when you refuse to allow men to hit on you. But if you're not a woman over 45, then you might not know what I'm talking about. And except for Clarence Thomas and other black folks who try to pretend it's not happening, all of us have at least one defining moment when racism at least smacks us in the face... or breaks our jaw, or takes us out for the long count.

Been there?
