I know, we're all tired of pregnancy threads, but this thread justifies it all.... please read

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin comes off the stage to greet the crowd after appearing with Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain during a rally in Dayton last week. With her are her children Bristol, left, holding Trig, and Willow, center. Palin said today that her 17-year-old unmarried daughter, Bristol, is five months pregnant, an announcement aimed at rebutting Internet rumors that Palin's youngest son, born in April, was actually her daughter's.

Ok everyone. I know there has been great distrust and acrimony within the DU Presidential community. A lot of people think this kind of thing should be kept off the table. I can't count the number of threads I read asking the more aggressive researchers in the community to stop because it was degrading to something.

I'm usually the kind of guy who says, you know what, ATTACK! Hey, I'm from Ohio, who cares about concerns. Can we please let them have it now? It's in my nature. But I like to think of myself as a thoughtful person every once and a while.

All of those threads, some crazy, some well thought out, some with pictures, and some with nothing more than WTF? It was like a lightbulb went off in a lot of people. This is the perfect time for me to say enough! I can demand answers about this woman who claims to be better than Hillary Clinton. How dare she? Even my rightwing sister in law is pissed. IT'S ON NOW!

Like he really thought we were that fucking stupid? We're gonna find out EVERYTHING ABOUT HER. BECAUSE WE AS AMERICANS DESERVE TO KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT PRESIDENTIAL AND VICE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES. WHY SHOULDN'T QUESTIONS BE ASKED? OF ALL KINDS? WE DON'T HAVE ANY IDEA WHO THIS WOMAN IS AND SHE COULD BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES IN A HEARTBEAT!

1. Ask questions but don't vilify the family
They are off target. Take on abstinence only sex ed. Defend a woman's right to choose. But leave the family out of any issues raised.

3. Are you kidding? LOOK AT THAT PICTURE!!!!!! She's NOT A MOTHER!!!! I'm calling her out right now
This woman isn't a mother. She's a POLITICAL CANDIDATE ACTING LIKE A MOTHER! Her 17 year old daughter is pregnant on stage. Instead of spending time with her, she HANDS HER FOUR MONTH OLD SPECIAL NEEDS CHILD TO HER 17 YEAR OLD WHO IS ALSO PREGNANT OUT OF WEDLOCK!!!!!!

THIS IS THE REPUBLICAN VICE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE!!!!!!!!

22. As a completely uninformed guy, that picture and recent revelations does beg the question ...
Edited on Tue Sep-02-08 03:04 AM by krkaufman
... in *my* mind, whether a 5-month pregnant teen should be carrying around a 4-month-old baby. At what point does the pregnant mom need to start taking it easy on heavy lifting, to avoid risks to the pregnancy?

I don't see this as an issue to push relative to the election; I'm just curious, because it would affect my *personal* opinion of Palin.

24. Assuming she doesn't have placenta previa or another serious problem,
which would preclude it, she can continue to lift 20 pound-ish objects at any point in her pregnancy, up to and including labor.

If women couldn't raise their other kids and continue to perform normal functions during pregnancy we wouldn't have got very far as a species.

13. All Repukes hate children.
Why should we leave the family out? They leave their own family out of their lives. They're just props in their careers.

20. That is the point in this.... they use their families as pawns...
But don't back up it up. They ignore them. They hand 4 month olds with special needs to their own daughters, who are also pregnant out of wedlock. That's the truth. A picture is worth a thousand words.

26. The most vile, cynical thought that's passed through my brain on this ....
Edited on Tue Sep-02-08 04:09 AM by krkaufman
... aligns with your "pawns" comment -- wondering if Palin ever pondered the political aspect of keeping the Down Syndrome baby, knowing how much it would boost her anti-abortion credentials amongst her fellow fanatics.

25. Ummm... wouldn't that be statutory?
Edited on Tue Sep-02-08 03:39 AM by krkaufman
Ah, no, sayeth Google... "The age of consent is defined as 16 years old, according to Alaska statutory rape laws."

And the series of tubes also informs that the baby daddy is 18-year-old Levi Johnston.

p.s. Ouch. A quote from the baby daddy's MySpace page:
He also claims to be "in a relationship," but states, "I don't want kids."

5. Just look at the expression on Bristol's face in the picture. It says it all.
Sarah Palin is ALL about Sarah Palin. She doesn't give a shit about her children.

7. What kind of mother would put her teenage daughter in the spotlight like this?
She had to know this would come out even if children are off the table. I feel so sad for Bristol.

6. The real victim in all this is Bristol. Her mother turned what could have been a small local rumor
into a worldwide scandal.
Obviously Gov Palin's ambitions are more important to her than her family's welfare.

It's sick. Everything about this is just sick. I'm sorry, it has to come to light. I'm not gonna sit and not post about this. It's SICK.

I don't know her and I don't know her family. I know my own life and what I personally believe in. If Chelsea Clinton had been pregnant at 17 instead of going on to graduate from both Stanford and Oxford.... imagine how they would have behaved.

That young adult child is being abused psychologically for this ......even as she is supposedly pregnant with her own kid.

The picture is worth 10,000 words!!!!!!!!!!

14. They kept her out of SCHOOL to hide her pregnancy
And now this.

And imagine her being told "here, hold Trig so he can HIDE your stomach". We've all made observations since Friday how Bristol was always the one holding Trig. It was even used to push the theory that she was really Trig's mom. Now we know the real reason why she has been holding him.

When you see something that that is that screwed up it is best to just fire in all directions. I expected 50% hits. It's looking more like 80% at this point. She's like the greatest thing that happened to Democrats... maybe since the Great Depression (campaign wise).

23. It *does* make me wonder what the hell the purpose was for keeping Bristol out of school ...
.... if Palin was going to expose her daughter's pregnancy on a national stage, rather than amongst local family and friends.

*Did* Bristol have mono and *that* was why she was kept out of school? Or was it a cover for the pregnancy? How long has she been out of school (or how long was she out of school)?
