I don't disagree with trying to keep kids from having sex for as long as possible. It's a good idea, and religion needn't play a central role in that effort. For example, some years ago, I read that girls who are active in high school athletics have a significantly lower rate of sexual activity than those who who are not.

Nevertheless, the abstinence education policy fails when practical sex education and information about contraception are excluded from the curriculum.
