Many years ago, I went to college with a guy who was saving himself for marriage. He was NOT ashamed of his body and he was NOT ashamed of sex. It meant a lot to him to come into his marriage without having slept with anyone else.
I've listened to women who feel the same way. They have every intention of making up for lost time after they get married. And they are seriously looking forward to it.
The "new" abstinence advocates, i.e. the young people who are making this decision, aren't going into this with their eyes closed. They are very, very well aware of what it feels like to be aroused, and they've decided that they want to wait "until the time is right". Which for them, is after marriage.
No credit is given to today's kids who make this decision.
That's not "pro-choice". Choosing abstinence is a legitimate "choice".

Au contraire, unless you believe in the Divine, abstinence works 100% of the time.
And it's the ONLY method that does. My sister had her tubes tied and still got pregnant.
Now, me personally, my vote's with Dr. Elders. Teach them what they CAN do (oral sex) without risking pregnancy.
But that's "comprehensive sex ed". And frankly, I think that oral sex is one of the parts that some of the fundies are truly afraid of.

it ain't no trick to prevent pregnancies - if all people want to do is prevent pregnancies. But I don't think there's universal agreement on that last point, nor is there likely to be.

I support EDUCATED abstinence. I didn't mean to insult personal decisions.

13. I don't see where "credit" is due anybody who waits until they are married |
|
to have intercourse. However I will credit those who do, and don't make babies by mistake. OTOH, the young woman is apparently keeping the baby and acknowledging her responsibility as she sees it. She's no poster child for Christian Conservatism, but she isn't The Evil One either. My hope is that the child is raised by people who love and can properly care for him/her.
