Who here still believes Trig is Bristol's? I do.
I've seen two theories suggested:

1. Bristol is now faking a pregnancy and will eventually have a "miscarriage."

2. This is Bristol's second pregnancy and they fudged the dates a bit. The baby will be born a bit later than expected but the election will be over at that point and it won't matter.

If Bristol is really 5 months pregnant, we still have no explanation for the insane water-breaking story. Palin still looks flat-stomached at 6 months "pregnant." Bristol was still out of school for months before Trig's birth. Sorry, not buying it.

Why is this important? Because right now McCain can claim he knew about a pregnant daughter. The switcheroo story, which I believe is the real truth, is the one that will sink him as completely incompetent. And they're still accusing "liberal bloggers" of smearing the Palin family. The full truth will vindicate our side. They're counting on us chickening out or getting tired of the baby stuff or thinking it doesn't matter because Palin is toast anyway. But it does matter. This was never about Palin but about McCain's judgment. We need to keep pounding at the truth before McCain dumps her and we lose our chance.

Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 09:18 PM by MichaelHarris
right now I don't think it matters. What she did today was admit to a deception, I don't know how it will play out but people were mislead. Her own "people" the one's that didn't know she was pregnant didn't know about the daughter either. What I hope America sees from this is a woman capable of less than honest behavior. That's the story we should be running with, the less that honesty. Sure some will yell and scream, "Leave the family out!" DO they yell and scream the same thing when a Democrats on the receiving end?

11. Leave Bristol Alone
She is a teenager.

I can only imagine how hard this must be for her. She's a teenager with a very conservative mother and finds out she is pregnant! How worried Bristol must have been about her parents' reactions! You know, a lot of ultra religious types disown their daughters for "sinning." But, Bristol did the right thing and told her parents rather than trying to have an abortion just because she was scared of their reaction. The Palins are doing the right thing for Bristol by supporting her through this. Finally, I don't think the teenager had any say in whether or not her mother took on this role that would subject the family to such scrutiny.

True, while Bristol's behavior is irrelevant Sarah Palin's behavior is very much an issue. She exposed her family to this kind of scrutiny, knowing how the media is. There is nothing wrong with questioning McCain's judgment in his pick, either. However, in this case, I don't know of any way to separate them. We cannot hold McSame or Sarah Palin accountable without smearing Bristol.

It's not Bristol's fault she's pregnant either - she's probably a victim of abstinence only education.

As for would they do the same were it our family, don't forget that we are supposed to be better than they are.

5. ARG! If he weren't the Gov's baby you would have no explanation for the insane water breaking story
If Sarah Palin wasn't really pregnant, she didn't have any water to break. There would be no reason to tell people it did. It's not evidence of anything but her being a drama queen.

14. How do you know there's no reason?
Maybe the doctor was willing to lie for Palin, but only so far. Maybe she told Palin she'd pretend Palin had given birth instead of Bristol but she wouldn't lie about any other details of the labor or delivery.

Or maybe Palin told that lie in order to jibe with some other lie she told somewhere else. Maybe something we're not yet aware of.

You don't know there's no reason.

15. I've wondered if the child might not be her son's?
Maybe the birth mother just couldn't cope with raising a child so his paternal grandparents adopted him? It's as likely as the daughter having a 2nd pregnancy and more likey than a pregnant woman having her OB tell her it's okay to fly 4,000 miles when her amniotic fluid is leaking.

17. I can't believe some of you are still copping an attitude about this.
Look, believe it or don't, but save the eye-rolling. You all are the ones who said there was nothing to this, and you were wrong. I simply believe we have only half the story. And what's so hard to believe about this anyway? People used to do this ALL the time.

It's only hard to believe that anyone would still do it today. But, does the fact that it's a right-wing fundie governor with a political career to protect make it any easier to believe? These people are living in the 50s.

It's only hard to believe that a presidential candidate could be so incompetent as to select a running mate with this possibility hanging over her head. But we know McCain's judgment really is that poor and that Palin was NOT vetted with any thoroughness at all.

It's only hard to believe that Republicans are in such a desperate position that they would actually WANT the public to believe that Palin told a bald-faced lie about the details of the birth of her special needs infant in order to gain favorable publicity. That they would WANT the public to believe that the 17-year-old daughter of their VP running mate is 5 months pregnant. But, yes, they really are in such a desperate position that this fairy tale is more acceptable to them than the truth. I'm BEGGING you; can we please not let them get away with this?

And is this story any harder to believe than that our supposed president would sit there listening to a goat story after being informed that terrorists attacked America? Is it any harder to believe than the Supreme Court installing their preferred candidate to begin with? Is it any harder to believe than Republicans attacking the patriotism of a decorated war hero senator and another senator who lost three limbs in battle... and being successful at it? I could go on and on. Everything about these people is unbelievable. They're freaks.

We are so close to having the WHOLE truth come out. This is not going to hurt our side. In fact, I think it's going to hurt our side MORE if we drop it now with only half the truth hanging there. Then the Republicans get to paint us as bullies who forced Palin to expose her 17-year-old daughter's pregnancy. They make it about Bristol instead of Palin and McCain. And they get to pretend that McCain knew all along and isn't phenomonally incompetent but compassionate, open-minded, and a "maverick."

So much has still not been explained. The waiting 24 hours or so after her water broke to seek medical care. The fact that Palin seemed to go from flat-stomached at 6 months to very big-bellied a month or two later. Palin's school absence which has lasted much longer than her supposed pregnancy. Are they still going to claim she's had mono and been too sick to go to school for all that time but not too sick to get knocked up?

And what's with them saying they had to reveal Bristol's current "supposed" pregnancy in order to dispel rumors by "liberal bloggers?" Does that mean they would have kept it a secret? Do they honestly think they could have? McCain claims he knew. Does that mean he was planning to go along with hiding it from the American people? If they cared so much about Bristol's privacy, why even have Palin be the running mate?

Besides, all politics aside, I'd like to see the truth come out for the sake of Bristol and Trig. This is not a healthy situation for either of them. We can assume Bristol was given no choice in whether or not she would have this baby. Who knows whether she had any choice in pretending her mother gave birth to Trig. She's already had her privacy sacrificed - by them, not by us. Let's at least try to help her have some normalcy and not have to live a lie.

18. A few more things...
About the flying from TX to AK being peddled as a "fish story." First, that's a pretty Palin-friendly spin to put on it. When Hillary misspoke about Bosnia, they crucified her for it. If Palin wants to put that spin on it, let HER do it. Let's not do it for her and brush this issue aside. HOWEVER...

As I said elsewhere, if Palin made up the whole thing, why did her doctor verify PART of the story but also say that Palin did NOT ask for a medical OK to fly? It's easier for me to believe the doctor would help Palin lie if the story about Bristol being Trig's mom is true. I can see the doctor being paid off to lie in that case. It's harder for me to believe that the doctor would help Palin lie ONLY about her water breaking in TX. I can't believe the doctor wouldn't have told Palin that the story would only make Palin look insane, not heroic (and that it would make the doctor look incompetent). I can't belive Palin wouldn't know that herself. I can't believe it would be so important for Palin to puff herself up that she would pay off the doctor to go along with that lie. Even if Palin made up the smaller lie without consulting with her doctor and THEN asked the doctor to corroborate her story, the doctor could have just not spoken to the press, citing HIPAA laws. That would actually look better than telling the press that Palin never asked for a medical OK to fly. If you look at the web of lies as being damage control for Bristol giving birth to Trig, it makes a lot more sense. Because then the lies are necessary and unavoidable.

And for those who say let the National Enquirer handle it, I say nope. Since when do we leave it to tabloids to seek out the truth? They're interested in publishing papers, not finding the truth. Besides that, we need to get this settled FAST - before McCain has a chance to drop her off the ticket. Which he will, I don't have a doubt of that.

And, you know, people say well this couldn't have happened without people knowing about it. But I think people DID know about it. This belief that Palin was faking for Bristol began in Alaska months ago. I think lots of people knew it or believed it, there just wasn't any incentive for anyone to take it to the national media. And no one could really PROVE it. The following comment by a political rival is about as close to, "Uh huh, Sarah, whatever you say," as you can get:

http://www.adn.com/front/story/336402.html
"It's wonderful. She's very well-disguised," said Senate President Lyda Green, a mother of three who has sometimes sparred with Palin politically. "When I was five months pregnant, there was absolutely no question that I was with child."

Palin had to have known about the rumors. Why not dispel them at the time? Why not send out a gubernatorial Christmas card with a picture of the whole family? Surely Bristol was not so sick that she couldn't stand for 5 seconds while someone snapped a photo. What did they do Christmas morning? Open gifts while Bristol was immobile up in her bed? Did they not have one family photo of her during that time period? If she was that sick, why wasn't she in a hospital?

Trig IS Bristol's. I'm more certain of it than ever. And it WILL come out sooner or later. The only question is whether it will come out at a time and in a way that hurts McCain a lot, a little, or not at all.

been the most truthful person in all of her -gates during the last 72 hours.

If there is some sort of developmental delay, it may or may not be Down's. There are alot of other syndromes to pick from and some of those are not specific to babies of older women.
