We are now to the tipping point where keeping Palin is slightly worse than dumping her
This is only with regards to the McCain campaign.

Keeping her will be devestating to the GOP in Senate, House, and all lower races.

I'm sure the party elders are speaking with John now about what must happen with his choice. Should he refuse, watch for blood on the floor of the convention, but be sure to stock up on popcorn first.

1. I think they're going to keep her on, lower expectations, and then
every time she gives a speech or interview and DOESN'T sound like an idiot, they'll claim victory, just like they did with the Rick Warren Cone Of Silence forum when McLoon had all the answers and looked like he was on meth.

2. According to campaign rumors, she wasn't his
first or second pick. She was forced on him by someone (Rove? Cheney? deep pocket donors, his own staff?)

3. If he dumps her, it is over for his campaign
He would have to admit incompetence.

If he keeps her, it is over for his campaign, it highlights his decision making 'skills.'

Do the math!

Bwahahahahahaha!!

HE's done no matter what.

What's not a done deal are the down ticket races, and a lot of THOSE people are nto about to allow this Veep choice to ruin their chances.

6. I've been maintaining for weeks that this is all about downticket races

for the GOP.

Top of the ticket is done, finito, and likely has been for weeks, if not months. Their major push has been for downticket, which means getting the fundies in contested red state districts out to the polls. That's why they'll keep Palin on the ticket, presented as a martyr of the right "done in by the liberal blogs and media." It won't work, but that's their only play at this point.
