Republican Party Insiders are cursing Gustav right now - It's a race against the clock |
|
With new Palin potholes and scandals coming out at a record pace, the McCain campaign and the RNC desperately need to postpone their convention. And they had the perfect excuse with Gustav. In fact, they had already primed the media that this might happen. But fortunately for the rest of the world, Gustav petered into a big one day storm.
Now their asses are naked and exposed. This is a race against the clock. They've sent vetters to Alaska to try to assess the damage before she's nominated on Wednesday. And those vetters don't have nearly enough time to cover everything.
Do they nominate Palin knowing that the worst could coming down the pike? Do they have her step down now and replace her with someone else? That would dominate the convention and most likely, become a political nightmare. McCain demands Lieberman. Rove demands Romney. The evangelicals demand another Fundie. All on the floor of the convention.
They need to postpone the convention. But they can't do it without an excuse. They're screwed.

1. The investigation on her ends 10/31. If she's guilty, they're screwed.. |
|
just 4 days before the election. That's a big gamble. It'll be interesting to see what the Reps do.
From what I see, she's going to be guilty in TrooperGate. And 4 days till voting? Then I think Obama wins.

4. OK, Everybody take a deep breath now... |

I wish things would turn out the way everyone seems to be predicting but COME ON!!! The repukes are united at their convention according to the MSM and according to Andrea Mitchell - they see SarahPalin as a "rock star" who helped bring in more in contributions in the past few days than McLame ever got before.
So they are gonna eat her up at the convention and shower her with all that right-wing wacko love. Good news being that these bastards are always behind the curve of public opinion so their convention will be over before they get religion and start to be afraid of her on the ticket.
As for the investigation - the fact that it ends on Oct. 31 does not mean that the findings are presented publicly then. That could still take another couple months!

You can't clean that up or rock star that shit away. It turns anyone into fucked. State before Country isn't McCain's motto.

13. It's not treason. Just hopelessly incompetent, politically |
|
It's not like the AIP blows things up - they just want to organize a referendum on the issue of Alaska's status. That in itself is perfectly legal. But since they themselves chat about the idea infiltrating the major parties for political leverage, it makes her pretty much radioactive as a national candidate.

6. they're not united. They haven't been for a while |
|
They talk a good unity game, but don't believe for a moment that the various wings of the republican party are fired up about this in near uniformity.
The party has been totally hijacked by the religious right.
Rove and Regan were masters at using them, but not giving in to them. Now they're taking over.
The republican party is in real danger of becoming a regional party.

8. You're right. The Fundies LOVE her. Which makes their problems worse. |
|
Because the scandals and reveals will send Independents running in the other direction. It will be the perfect storm.
Look at the stories that have been revealed in the last 24 hours. None of them good. And most of them undermine McCain's claims about Palin.
She's a maverick! Troopergate undermines that.
She's an amazing mother! The baby story undermines that.
She's just like McCain! Those pork barrel projects for Alaska undermines that.
And on and on and on....
If one more big story comes out about Palin, she's a huge liability. McCain cannot win on the fundie base alone.

14. I'm baffled they didn't pick Romney to start with. |
|
Seeing as how the economy is McCain's weak link he would have been the perfect guy to balance the ticket, as he's about the only guy they have with an air of fiscal competence about him. Please don't mistake this opinion for some sort of stealth Romney campaign membership, OK?
