Do they have a backup?

1. They won't vote no. Republicans like to be told what to do.
Unlike Democrats, the typical Republican feels uncomfortable with nuanced positions.

3. They can't do it
She has to step down for the good of her growing family and focus on Alaska...blah, blah, blah, if at all.

I think they try to suck it up but they become the party of insane loons if they do. I don't think that's advisable when your brand is beat up but I guess it solidifies a block for you.

Palin has now paved the way for others that have screwed up less to now seek office by just being honest on a couple mistakes and moving on. What a trailblazer she is!!!

2. They're probably in some smoke-filled room as we speak. She is self-combusting...
I have begun to wonder if one reason for the truncated RNC was to make it well-nigh impossible to replace her. But that doesn't make sense. If the powers that be want to get rid of her they are going to have to move fast.

The whole thing is weird. There is no fathoming the Republican mind.

4. Seems unlikely. If McCain is resolute on Palin, the convention delegates
will affirm his pick, problematic though she be. She's a risk for him if she stays on the ticket.

If the internal rumblings are very loud then I could see a scenario where Palin "voluntarily" steps aside for a more "traditional" choice, but McCain incurs great risk with that strategy, too. Voters would see him as unsteady and unclear (something we've known about McCain for some time!)

6. They Can't Vote No On Palin But They Could On McCain
Maybe that will be Rush's direction this morning.

7. If they don't then they're no better than seditionists
Are the Republicans such haters of America that they're willing to put a secessionist a heartbeat away from the presidency?

After Katrina and Gonzo-gate, I know they are willing to sink to any low. But to go this far to win- it makes you wonder if their allegiance is to America or Osama Bin Laudin.

13. They won't/can't vote her out. She will nobly step down, in the
interests of the party and because it has be revealed to her by almighty GAWD that she needs to spend more time with her family.
