Sarah Palin is everything the RNC wants in a McCain VP candidate
She's a woman - the RNC get's to say "see, we really are pro-woman, we would nominate a female when the dems wouldn't"
She's a working mom - the RNC get's to say "See, all you women out there, we really do support working moms"
She's a mom (BIG time) - "We are a very pro family party"

And

SHE HAS MAJOR FLAWS that work perfectly with all their other overt AND covert messages.

"Those evil dems, smearing the reputation of a good woman, a caring mother, who only tried to protect her children"
"The evil dems have destroyed her career"
"It's true, a full career in politics is just too much strain for a woman, especially a mother."
"Horrible things happen to families when women put aside their true career of full-time motherhood"

AND

They get to grab a last minute replacement VP when Sarah nobly pulls out of the race to take care of her family. A candidate who will do exactly the job they want, another Cheneyesque power behind the throne. Someone they can get in while their is less time to examine and overturn the nomination.

2. True, and while I'm not betting much on this
another repercussion* could be that the RNC decides they don't really want to nominate McCain after all despite his "long** career of service) and nominate the dark horse*** that's been out back being groomed in the stables all this time.

*planned?

** so very long it may involve Alzheimer's? Witness his VP pick. (said in a tiny whisper to other pubs)

***hmmmm? I wonder who will totally fit their agenda?

3. That is something that I thought possible since McCain became the presumptive
nominee.

4. GOP instantly trashes their chances if they trashed McCain
isn't going to happen.
