there have been personal smears against candidates going back who knows how long? Thomas Jefferson was smeared for his alleged affair with Sally Hemings. The genie will not be put back in the bottle.

There is no republican high road. There is no Democratic high road. Everybody claims to hate and deplore smear politics but it consistently works. Even the media who in turn fuels it for ratings and selling papers.
