Food for Thought - Last Week It was All About Obama
Yes I know there was the Clinton/unity thing but it played right into Obama's hands as Hill and Bill both gave great speeches.

This week is a stark contrast. Not only was Sunday and Monday completely wasted from their convention coverage today will be half wasted with weather of Gustav and Hanna on its way.

But the real food for thought is that rather than the week being all about McCain it is being spent defending his VP pick. That is never a good place to be in for a camapign. Who knows how this will shake out but defending is never as good as offense.

1. And WHAT a contrast. They WANT to make this all about her daughter. That's the least of all evils!
The week starts with...

- Gustav.

- Sarah who?

- Your daughter's what?

- YOU'RE UNDER INVESTIGATION?!?

- You were a member of WHAT party?!?

And then we end the week with...

- Hanna

- Ike

- ???

3. I know this may sound weird
But we are also ending the week with football. Between High school football Friday night, college football on Saturday and the NFL on Sunday and Monday (don't forget about Thursday night's season opener with the Redskins and Super Bowl champs NY Giants) Men in the 25-64 demographic will be consumed with sports. I know it sounds sexist to say "MEN" and of course women also watch football. But the core demographic is Men.

2. Exactly
While, at their convention, they are forced to deal with the Palin disaster, Obama and Biden are out campaigning, getting huge crowds whereever they go. Obama/Biden is getting their message out...while McCain is defending his VP choice. It's a win-win for us.

4. I like it. Obama's free to travel & campaign
Edited on Tue Sep-02-08 08:32 AM by SoCalDem
and not be pecked to death by all the naysaying press folks..when McBlunder's campaign is over the two will be compared, and by then who knows who will be Mccain's veep choice.
McCain cannot campaign ANYWHERE right now except a few VFW halls loaded with old guys from WWII, and his carefully chosen town hall ...all he has left is the crummy attack ads that are not all that funny, or effective..

He;s not gaining much traction

6. Wonder if Obama/Biden need to "bus" people into their events
I believe they end up having to turn some people away due to large crowds.

5. The thing is, we actually WANTED the attention to be on the RNConvention...
because theirs was going to suck sooooooo terribly by comparison. Now how basly they suck will hardly be highlighted, because there's a hurricane and McGoo isn't eating cake with W, so....

7. But maybe this is the way they want it
Check out the Herbert column today. He makes excellent points about this being a distraction. While we are all talking about Palin's hypocrisy and corruption and lack of qualifications, we are NOT talking about McBush's failed policies and agenda.

The Democrats need to be careful about the intensity of their criticism of Sarah Palin.

<snip>

Here’s the deal: Palin is the latest G.O.P. distraction. She’s meant to shift attention away from the real issue of this campaign — the awful state of the nation after eight years of Republican rule. The Republicans are brilliant at distractions. Willie Horton was a distraction. The chatter about gays, guns and God has been a long-running distraction. And we all remember the Swift-boat campaign.
....Respectful criticism of Sarah Palin is fine. But the great issues of this campaign loom like giant redwoods over the pathetic weeds of politics as usual and the myriad distractions that have turned one presidential election after another into a national embarrassment.
