Speculation, Redux: Who will McCain's VP be? |
|
Since many of us suspect Palin won't survive the week, if not the convention, who will McCain finally select? I suspect that he is going to be impulsive again, though pick someone who is perceived as being well-seasoned and largely public.
After pissing off Pawlenty and Mittens, I think they are out. Ridge would come to the fore, especially since he ran Homeland Security. Indeed, Ridge is the anti-Palin, should there be such a thing.

1. I think they might have a floor challenge and McCain will be OUT |
|
An entirely new dynamic duo may come out of the convention. The Republicans are ruthless. When they saw that no combination of people beats Obama/Biden, they threw in this hail mary. When they see that this didn't work, they'll do whats next in an increasing scale, and nominate an entirely new candidate and VP.
GOP Presidential Candidate Schwarzenegger? Who really knows, but I predict it will be a wild, wild ride in the next week.

But I can't think of any other candidate whose selection would not break the party. Republicans are sensitive about party discipline, and McCain is popular. And considering all but Mittens performed poorly in the primaries ...

9. Schwarzenegger can't run for prez because he was not born in the United States |
|
Lucky for us. If he could run, he'd win.

3. Romney. After the meme that Palin was booted because Left Wing Radicals |
|
made it hard on her family and daughter, and she pulls out... the fundies will be more accepting of Romney as a way to stick to the dems. They will be rallied around the rethug nominee and will still work for McCain without Palin because of what the mean old dems did to her and her family.
Any bets??? Takers????

8. McSame would be smart to pick Mittens, but... |
|
The whole Mormon things seems to be such a non-starter that it would deflate enthusiasm even if it calms nerves.

4. If Palin goes, it will be Huckabee. |
|
Gotta placate the religious right. Huckabee has executive experience as Governor of Arkansas, he's loved by the fundies, and for some reason, people think he comes off as likable.

11. He has a truckload of ethical baggage |
|
The statewide paper in Arkansas was in the tank with Huck, so it never reached critical mass, but there's a ton of devastating dirt.
* Wayne Dumond, the slug who raped Bill Clinton's distant cousin and became a cause celebre in far right circles. Huckabee sprang Dumond from prison, and Dumond promptly murdered two people in Missouri.
* His ties to militia wingnuts such as Jay Cole.
* The shady state data processing contract.
*Registering at Dillards and Wal-Mart so lobbyists and other wealthy bigshots could buy him gifts before leaving office.

Sargent Shriver was a non-politician who enver wanted to be a politician.
They have to go outside politics for the replacement.

10. My thought this morning - Palin is the setup to keep Cheney as VP. |
|
She's cute, she'll look great on TV during the convention. She's got the right-wing nutjobs excited because she's basically Cheney in a dress.
But..she's got baggage; lots of it.
Her pregnant, unwed daughter and her Down's Syndrome child make a perfect excuse to "spend more time with her family", thus leaving the door wide open for a "man with experience, a man ready on day one". Cheney.
Or, maybe Jeb.
I'm going to go throw up now...
