Beer Queen Cindy REMIXES the "Americans, not Republicans" line...now, it's all about HATS.

Under the weight of Gustav, speeches at the convention on Monday were light on red-meat rhetoric and heavy with appeals for donations to victims of the Gulf Coast storm, which was the main message in brief remarks from Laura Bush and her would-be successor, Cindy McCain.

“This is a time when we take off our Republican hats and put on our American hats,” said Cindy McCain.

Added the first lady, “Our first priority for today and in the coming days is to ensure the safety and well-being of those living in the Gulf Coast region.”

But good will and assistance aside, Republicans are ready to get back to the business of politics.

5. Ain't THAT the truth...
The DNC was too hard to follow. This is especially hard when the RNC speakers start a la Cindy McCain.

Personally, I hope they have a lot of speakers because I want as much documentation of how low our country descended before we finally decided to take it back.

Okay, keep on talking, Cindy...

2. Hahahahahaha! I think this is a DUMB line, and one that can
be used against the Republicans in EVERY single race. All of the R's are spewing it out like it's some kind of genius. However, all that has to be done in a commercial, whether it is for Obama or a down ticket race is to show the catastrophes and mismanagement over the last 8 years while they were "acting like Republicans" and then come back with how can we trust them not to just go back to "acting like Republicans". I think that line is pure gold for Dem. Strategists.

3. The two "hats" theme suggests the two are mutually exclusive...
...in other words, you're either a Repuke or you're a good American, but you can't be both at the same time.

I'd agree with that!

6. Dunce caps.
The real hats on the right are the dunce caps that we now have to continuely pound on.
Everything they touched over the last eight years has turned to crap.
Bob Herbert's brilliant column in today's NYT details the failures of the right as spoken of so effectively by President Clinton at the convention last week.
Mr. Herbert also evokes FDR's "rendevous with destiny" speech that heralded in the recovery from the republican carnage of the 20's and 30's.
I don't think the column is accessible online w/o a subscription, but it's well worth a trip to the library today to read.
