You know, I'd rather hit back 10 times and have a few backfire than to keep getting punched in the face and apologizing for being in the way of some repub's hand.

We've finally got them on the run. They're spending their time defending themselves instead of spinning out new lies.

I say keep it up!

2. Not sure what "hit back" brought this out. If you're talking about Palin's experience
and position on the issues, I definitely agree. I don't call that a "hit back" but I hope that we keep it up.

4. A week ago and I'd have wholeheartedly agreed,
but now is the time to sit back and watch the GOP fall on their own sword.

Seriously! They are their own worst enemy now. Signals that their time has come and the public is starting to get wise to their incompetence and greed.

5. Potential backfire and backlash is a valid point on issues such as family
whether you like it or not or agree with it or not. Obama, himself, has said that the family is off limits. I don't believe he is secretly encouraging his supporters to do the opposite.

8. I agree, keep them on the defensive
Keeping the republicons on the defensive with M$M is tough enough but when you get them on the fence, we need to keep the pressure full throttle.

15. All I have to say is
Over 4000 unnecessary deaths. Let that little tidbit sink in. I feel sorry for the girl but this is really not about her. This is about McCain and his stunning lack of judgment. Palin has people snooping in her life ohhh I'm soo sorry for her inconvenience. There are men and women on their 3rd and 4th tours in Iraq and sadly many of them will never come home. Palin never should of put her family in the spotlight knowing good and damn well her daughter was pregnant, knowing everyone was going to ask questions. I blame her for all this madness.

17. Pretty cool huh?
It is part of Democratic Disease.

My kid was back home for the weekend and he was hugely against using the palin family disasters as issues - for all the reasons noted here. My wife and I agreed that in a perfect world campaigns would indeed be about the substantive differences on important issues, and tried to explain by the example of the Dukakis campaign, why that does not work. He would have none if it. He would rather lose fighting the good fight than win fighting dirty. The 'but we are better than that' argument is compelling, it appeals to our innate romantic idealism, to the empathy that is common to almost all Democrats. It should be the case that knocking down your opponent, promoting the negatives, is not a better strategy than building up your own guy and promoting the positives, but it turns out that in reality, this reality, negative campaigning succeeds where positive campaigns fail.

That does not mean we should be indiscriminate about how we attack them. In addition to emapthy, we are generally smarter than they are, and we should be smart about how we attack them.

18. And that's exactly what they always do.
They create these stupid fucking little non-issues ("No flag pin!!!" "John Kerry's Bike is French!"), that Democrats are stuck constantly having to defend. It's the Republican way of not having to actually discuss of substance (Cause they really suck at that).

I say keep them on the defensive until Nov.

23. Right and wrong matter too
Hitting back is vital, but so is doing the right thing. Otherwise we as a party are not worthy of the power we seek.

There are plenty of avenues of attack that highlight, rather than undermine, this party's core principles.

AIP. Abu Ghraib, torture in general, money spent on the war, state of the economy, etc.

24. Right and wrong don't only matter for Democrats.
When repubs do the wrong thing we need to call them on it and working against supporting teen mothers while your own 17yo daughter is pregnant is WRONG!

Instead, you want to let the repubs have a free ride on the Family Values train leaving the rest of us behind at the station.
