Karl Clauson, the 47-year-old lead pastor at ChangePoint - the largest church in the state - has been asked to take a leave of absence, according to an announcement posted on the ChangePoint Web site Thursday by church elders.

"Karl has done nothing illegal, nor is there any hint of financial or sexual indiscretion," the statement said. "He has, however, stumbled with respect to the core spiritual values of our church.

"We love Karl. ... As a church we are surrounding him and his family, and we hope to see the day when he again will be able to fully and effectively contribute to our vision and mission."

Church elders were meeting at the ChangePoint premises near Minnesota Drive and Raspberry Road on Thursday night and not immediately available for comment. Phone messages left at a Clauson family home were not returned.

5. As a devout....I find this press release very odd
I have no idea what it could mean. The claim here is a "spiritual stumble" not sexual, not financia; And the use of the term "spiritual" as opposed to "Theological" suggests it is not doctrinal. I have no idea what the stuble could be, A spritual failure suggest that he had called the congregation to fast and then was caught at IHOP.

My guess is that he padded his resume.

But this at best has hardly anything to do with Palin.

6. Alcohol? Drugs?
from the article:

"In an interview two years ago, Clauson said his life was headed in the wrong direction back then, filled with cars, parties and alcohol. "It was fast and furious," he said. "I actually began to dabble in cocaine."

21. Of course this is why Dobson and company are pushing for her!
She's not the only fundy mom in the country, but she is the only fundy mom in a position to give millions in tax payer money to right-wing churches without blinking an eye.

22. Well, technically it wasn't hers. She was just the steward - as the governor.
She gave $1.5 million in Alaska state money to the church so they could build a new roof on their hockey ring.

25. CLAUSON is FROM WASILLA, Palin funded his church with TAXPAYER money.
He attended Wasilla High School. She's got her own version of the good old boy's club:

After attending Service and Wasilla high schools, Karl Clauson took up dog-mushing and entered the 1979 Iditarod as an 18-year-old rookie, finishing the race in 38th place. For the next four years, he worked construction jobs on the North Slope for Veco.

Edited on Wed Sep-03-08 12:31 AM by mhatrw
If true, that's a puzzler.

What are their core values after sex and money? Drugs?

Nah, I don't believe it. It must have something to do with sex and/or money.
