Dear Dr. Laura
I'm in a bit of a bind. 4 months ago I gave birth to a... baby with special needs. I already had 4 other children. I just found out my then 16 year old daughter got (as you would say) knocked up.
But... I got this really great job offer. Lots more money and prestige, however I will be gone from home alot. The kids father works on the north slope and is on a two week on and off schedule so two weeks a month he can play mommy. Since I get more money I can hire nanny's so the other two weeks will be covered.
My friends think this is cool but are scared I'm not superwoman and can't juggle it all.

So I'm writing to you. What do you think I should do?

(please tell me I Can have it all:)
Sarah

1. Nice.
I'd REALLY like to see how she'd answer that.

4. I know how she would answer
If it was a regular woman, she would throw a fit.
The fact that she's McCains running mate... no problem... she's a Hero.

15. Here's the link
I've been listening to the show and although he's been talking about Palin I don't know when Dr. Laura is going to be on. Maybe she cancelled.

16. Update from KGO
Dr. Laura is refusing to comment on the Palin. So I guess she's not going to do the show. LOL

17. Typical cowardly move.
She couldn't comment on it without (a) reversing herself and wallowing in hypocrisy, or (b) pissing off her conservative listeners.

Guess she wants to keep her jewelry collection moving out the doors.

10. Bet you even money...
..she'll say that this is "different", because Palin is "sacrificing for her country" by going into public service, like our soldiers, so she gets a pass.

Also, she has a "support system".

In other words, she'll be a hypocrite.

9. Exactly what I was thinking too
Much as I avoid hearing the doctor speak anymore, I'd be mildly curious to hear what she has to say on this one.

Wouldn't it be nice if suddenly every day callers in exactly that situation called her to ask about it?

11. You could take out any reference to children and Dr L would say don't do it.
She'd also say your husband was spending two weeks away because you're not satisfying him.

12. *LOL!* When the stories started coming out about Palin
Dr. Laura is the FIRST person I thought of in terms of how right-wingers normally react to a situation like this. I know that we can count on Dr. Laura to honestly and passionately address the situation in the same way (and applying the same standards) that she would handle any other caller to her program with a similar situation.
:sarcasm:

14. I'll tell you what Dr. Laura told me...
Edited on Tue Sep-02-08 10:37 AM by TwoSparkles
When I first had my two children, I was very happy, but completely overwhelmed.

Although I disagreed with Dr. Laura's politics, I did appreciate her support
for stay-at-home moms.

So, I called her one day--to tell her that I had quit a very lucrative job in high-tech
public relations, at the pinnacle of my career--to stay at home with both babies--and
to get some support about wanting to start "getting back to myself" after being at home
with both of them for two years.

I didn't say I wanted to go back to work. I mentioned that I wanted to do some
freelance work from home--maybe 5-10 hours a week, while the kids were down for their
daily 2 hour naps. I also said that I was open to not working--but maybe taking a spin
class twice a week or maybe taking one night a week for myself--leaving my husband with
the kids.

Dr. Laura blasted me into the next century. She called me "selfish." She told me that
I would traumatize my children by being away from them for a few hours one night a week, "Do
you understand how long three hours is to a baby! They don't know you are coming back!" Dr.
Laura said.

She cut me off. She wouldn't listen to me, when I told her that I just needed a few hours--and
that I was with them every minute of every day.

Before she abruptly cut me off she said, "What did you expect would happen before you had these
babies? Didn't you realize that this would be a full time commitment? There will be plenty of
time to have time for yourself when they are both in school in a few years."

Then she hung up and launched into a tirade about mothers not living up to their commitments and how
unfortunate it is for the children of parents like this!

I bawled.

18. Need to leave out the north slope job. It will be moot.
I suspect the VP job pays enough to keep them all clothed and fed but the other questions
are ok assuming the nanny angle is honestly covered.

Buy yes, I suspect their "values" would mesh enough to get a positive response.
