"John didn’t get what he wanted. He wanted to do Joe or Ridge." (Direct quote from NYT)
Edited on Tue Sep-02-08 10:27 AM by kpete
"They didn’t seriously consider her until four or five days from the time she was picked, before she was asked, maybe the Thursday or Friday before," said a Republican close to the campaign. "This was really kind of rushed at the end, because John didn’t get what he wanted. He wanted to do Joe or Ridge."

But the media is portraying McCain as a maverick for his pick. He sounds like he caved.

1. If McCain is doing what the religous right wants now...
...he'll probably keep doing what they want as president (if he becomes president.)

3. Like Kerry said...
...McSame isn't a maverick, he's a prisoner of the Religious Right.

4. Kerry is right. McCain is not a maverick he didn't choose who he wanted
Palin was forced on him and he accepted it.

6. Exactly - there aren't two people in DC who know McCain better than Biden and Kerry and both
of them will be pushing every button McCain has as they lead on offense and defense for Obama - bet on it.

5. On "Morning Joe" this morning, they were ALL saying that McCain didn't get the VP HE wanted
and wondered what this says about his "maverick" brand and his pride in being his "own man" since he clearly caved to those who wanted him to choose this person he didn't even know. Even Joe Scarborough was saying this!

20. Yeah. It's too bad he didn't have the guts to pick who HE wanted. If he can't even stand up
to his base, how can he stand up to Ahmadinejad?!

8. Of course. But the GOP would implode if he stuck someone pro-choice on the ticket.
Edited on Tue Sep-02-08 10:44 AM by impeachdubya
OTOH, he could grab some random, unqualified chucklehead off the street, as long as they said they wanted to overturn Roe and made dumb-ass noises about teaching "both sides" of the evolution "debate".

And that's pretty much what happened.

9. Well, he gave up the experience argument when he put Palin on the
ticket, and now he's given up the maverick argument by caving to the wingers.

Does he have an arguments left?

12. So basically if Mccain caved under his own party now, what's stopping him from caving
to all those damn lobbyists orbiting around after he begins presidency?

Americans really need to read the signs and get a clue before November gets here.

13. McCain has not been running his Campaign since the Rovian Soldiers took over
Remember
"John McCain does not speak for this Campaign"
this is simply more proof of that. And proof that if elected President, once again behind the scenes people will be in charge

16. This is McCain's payback for not letting him pick Joe or Ridge.
She'll have to withdraw and then he'll be free to pick who he wants.
