19. I'm home & safe - I returned last night -

The folks evacuated from NOLA will not be allowed to return until Thursday or Friday - that is one reason why folks don't like to evacuate.

I know that as soon as the worst of it had passed, I had to get home to see what, if anything, had happened to my house, with or without electricity, it is my home and I wanted to be back in it.

I was blessed and my house is high and dry and intact.

Swampy may not be able or too worried about being online until he and his family are back home and safe.

Swampy, you guys are in our thoughts and prayers. Take good care. :hi:

30. I worry ... his bike was his only means of transportation and

his leg since Katrina had not gotten the medical care that was needed.

He was working on his masters and doctorate this summer
and was spending a lot of time on his studies.

I know N. O. is not back together and he
might still be on a bus some where.

46. The news said that they will begin to allow folks back in New Orleans

at midnight tonight.

And hopefully Swampie has had the leg looked while at the shelters, they do provide medical personnell at some of them.

48. No electricity and/or water and sewer to a majority of the homes

they said they will let them return beginning at midnight tonight - they are advising everyone coming home that they might not have function toilets, running water and electricity. Once they get the water running, they may have to issue boil notices until they get it right.

Hurricane evacs are more than just getting the hell out of dodge, it isn't as easy as most folks think, not for the evacuees and/or the governing body.

I wondered how you faired. My parents are up in Saucier, and barely felt it, so I was hoping you were well, and that your stuff survived this time.

What do you think of Nagin not letting people back in yet. If he wants people to evacuate next time, he shouldn't make them regret doing it this time, it seems to me.

Didn't take any chances, and yes, we barely felt it - a few limbs down, some squalls with high winds and heavy rains, but not cane weather. Thank you for your concern. :hi:


I think not letting folks come home and making them sit in shelters will hurt the next evacuation.

I couldn't wait to get home, I left as soon as I heard the road was clear and I would have come home to no electricity if I had to and my living arrangements were as close to being home as I could get. I can only imagine the evacuees in some strange city on the cots without any means to get around - the trapped feeling and lack of control of their own lifes must be maddening.

it was one of life's interruptous moments - we all have to deal with those unfortunately - it wasn't easy to leave but I went to safety and gratefully came back to grasshopper and fire ant filled debris - the grasshoppers are all over the place now, not sure where they came from they are more nuicance than anything.

someone in this thread said that Swampy is posting on his site, so it appears he is okay - he lives in NOLA - not sure if he evacuated or not.

I feel for those who did and won't get to go home until tomorrow, that is too long an interruptous - the unknown is what gets ya, before and after the storm.
