Palin would have been imprisoned or executed in other countries for what she did |

Belonging to a secessionist group, advocating the breakup of your country, is no small matter in many countries around the world. Indeed, she would have faced imprisonment in many countries, if not execution, for her involvement. Yet thanks to our lax freedom of expression laws, not only is she allowed to do so, but now she gets rewarded with a tap to be this country's vice president?

2. It's legal but not appropriate to a national leader |

Other countries do have legal secessionist parties; e.g. the Scottish and Welsh Nationalists in the UK; the Quebec secession party (not sure of the exact name) in Canada. However, one can accept a viewpoint under 'freedom of speech' and still consider that it disqualifies a person for national high office. I wouldn't want someone as PM of the UK who was only interested in independence for Scotland and couldn't give a monkey's about the rest of the country. There are 49 states besides Alaska, and they deserve leaders who are committed to serving the country, not just their own state and 'to hell with the rest of the country, I'm in this for Alaska!'
What a bizarre choice. What was McCain thinking - oh that's right, he wasn't.
