Palin demanded Loyalty Oaths as Mayor- to see if they were a 'Palinista"
If a small-town mayor ever ruled with an iron fist — it was Palin. Eleven days after taking office in 1996, she mailed letters to each of the city’s top managers requesting that they resign as a test of loyalty.

The Anchorage Daily News at the time reported the strange events: (via Nexis)

'Mayor Sarah Palin sent the resignation requests Thursday to Police Chief Irl Stambaugh, public works director Jack Felton, finance director Duane Dvorak and Mary Ellen Emmons, the head of libraries. A fifth director — John Cooper, who oversaw the city museum — resigned earlier this month after Palin eliminated his position."

Cooper initially resisted resigning, but to no avail. Palin also later fired the police chief, saying she knew in her “heart” that he did not support her. She left the head of libraries a letter saying she was out — though Palin later decided to spare the librarian after being convinced that she would tow the line.

The whole saga is unusual — considering Palin prides herself on being independent and seems to enjoy butting heads with her own party. But, this sounds like she requires fierce loyalty of those who work for her.

1. I don't see any "oaths" -- just requests to resign as a "test of loyalty"
which, granted, is bizarre.

6. How does DEMANDING that someone resign test a person's loyalty?
Am I missing something? Most people want to keep their jobs, no matter who takes over as boss. So, if you quit, you're out of a job, but you're rewarded for your loyalty with a pat on the head--and if you DON'T resign, you're fired. WTF? She's a fucking psycho. No one who loves power that much should be allowed anywhere near it.

15. To even compare the murder of 6 million people with the firing of department heads....
So sickening.

Why would the water-headed masses love being caged ANOTHER 8 years? Maybe there should be IQ tests at the polls, the Dems would win every election for the rest of time...

not her disfunctional family. It points to the fact she is unfit to serve in a leadership position in the US.

12. Having lived in tiny towns all my life and having had a father
who was a mayor of a tiny town for a time, I've never heard anything like this before ever. This woman sounds completely nuts. Tiny towns are usually run by a handful of people and for good reason - there's not much going on. A pothole here, a snow plow there, unlicensed dogs on the prowl . . . it's not like being mayor of NYC.

14. "Prides herself on being independent"?
She simply sounds insecure, and very dependent on those she trusts.

16. So when is the MSM going to start airing this enormous pile of dirty laundry?
So far, all I've heard on cable is the discussion of the pregnancy of the daughter, with outraged Republicans saying it's a good thing. I've even heard troopergate mentioned in passing, with no further elaboration.

20. What was the previous party running the town?
Not to defend the act, but the first thing when a President takes office does is to fire
nearly everyone from the previous admin if they are from a different party.

Sounds like business as usual here.
