I don't know about the rest of you, but this is the place I come to when I don't quite understand an issue. I come here to ask questions and better inform myself.

I do not come here to be attacked for asking an honest question when I don't understand something.

Some of you have forgotten that. So, in the future perhaps some of you can think twice before ridiculing members for asking something you see as so cut and dry.

I can understand if the person asking the question has like 20 posts; you might be suspicious, but when a member has 1000, 1500, 2000 posts or more, I think that calls for the benefit of doubt.

I didn't understand the signifigance of the AIP. It's not all over the blogs, and I just wanted some clarification. It did not warrant being called a freeper, or Palin herself.

I don't do that to you guys, and I would appreciate it if you would actually put some thought behind your words before just jumping over me and others.

20. I'm jumping into this one late, but some of the themes being

kicked round about the AIP and Palin include her affiliation with that party, which argues in part for Alaskan secession.

Secession remains a third-rail issue for many citizens who see Lincoln's efforts to preserve the union as just and appropriate and noble, Lincoln being a Republican at a time when it was a good thing.

Another resonance is that a governor asking to be the vice president (and possibly president) of ALL the people in the nation cannot be validly seen as a secessionist, or as someone with strong secessionist associations and ties and impulses.

Another is the media's response to her secession. Many posts are asking if the mainstream media will cover it, or cover it with the same zeal they'd cover it if Palin were a Democratic nominee and not a Republican nominee.

Another is whether the fundie base of the GOP consider "God Bless America" a phrase which suggests the nation has been singled out for favor by God or if the nation-minus-Alaska has been.

Another is whether McCain's people vetted Palin and if so, reported to McCain of her apparently strong affiliation with the AIP, and in light of that knowledge McCain still chose her, which reflects poorly on McCain's judgment.

In the overall I guess the issue is whether strong affiliation with a secessionist group is a disqualifying factor for a candidate who purports to want to represent everyone.

kind about my ignorance, and are generous in their explanations and really help me understand an issue.

The other day someone called me stupid, but I've yet to be accused of being a Freeper (something to look forward to). :7

For the most part DUers are super super helpful. The relative small number of assholes is something we have to live with, I guess.

I've never thought somebody was stupid because they didn't understand something -- especially when they were seeking clarification in an attempt to become more knowledgeable. :shrug:

I don't give much credence to post counts. It's not how big a blabbermouth a person is, but what they have to say that matters to me. I know a lot of... ahem... losers who haven't been here as long as I have, but have much, much higher post counts. I don't hang in the lounge, so...

I don't read the InterTubes over the weekend either, so when I come back on Mondays (or Tuesdays if a long weekend like this... ) I get a little miffed when I see the snarking off of those who choose to spend a little freaking time IRL! Jeez.
