Video of Palin addressing Penecostal Church (Iraq War is a messianic affair)
Posted at Huff Po (I wish the video was edited-rather long):

Speaking before the Pentecostal church, Palin painted the current war in Iraq as a messianic affair in which the United States could act out the will of the Lord.

"Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending out on a task that is from God," she exhorted the congregants. "That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God's plan."

Religion, however, was not strictly a thread in Palin's foreign policy. It was part of her energy proposals as well. Just prior to discussing Iraq, Alaska's governor asked the audience to pray for another matter -- a $30 billion national gas pipeline project that she wanted built in the state. "I think God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so pray for that," she said.

Video of Kalnins and Palin from June 8, 2008 (via wasillaag.net):

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/02/palins-church-may-have-sh_n_123205.html

This is truly scary (from the above link):

Pastor Kalnins (Senior Pastor of the Church) has also preached that critics of President Bush will be banished to hell; questioned whether people who voted for Sen. John Kerry in 2004 would be accepted to heaven; charged that the 9/11 terrorist attacks and war in Iraq were part of a war "contending for your faith;" and said that Jesus "operated from that position of war mode."

31. I didn't hear this as saying the Iraq war is a messianic affair
It sounded to me and even reads to me that she's asking them, in effect, to pray that our leaders are acting wisely and in a fashion of which god would approve.

Of course, I personally don't believe in prayer, being a diehard atheist. But I don't think any religious person would find it offensive to pray that our leaders "do gods will" rather than "man's will." If anything, her exhortation expresses at least a hint of uncertainty that there really is a plan and uncertainty that this mission is really in accordance with the will of god.

But maybe I missing something.

LIke I said, being a dyed-in-the-wool atheist, this sort of talk always leaves me cold anyway.

58. Here are the rules:
30. What are the penalties if a religious organization violates the political campaign intervention prohibition?

Unlike lobbying by a religious organization, which is limited but not prohibited, political campaign intervention by a religious organization is strictly prohibited.59 Thus, the organization’s 501(c)(3) tax exemption may be revoked if it engages in any prohibited activity. This means that the organization’s income for the year would become subject to income tax. An excise tax on political expenditures may also be imposed on the religious organization as well as on the clergy member or other leader who authorized the political expenditures.60 Depending on the circumstances, the excise tax may be imposed in addition to revocation of tax exemption or instead of revocation of tax exemption.61 Generally, if the political expenditure is unintentional, the amount is small and the religious organization institutes operational changes to prevent future political expenditures, the IRS will not seek revocation of tax-exempt status.62

31. Does the IRS target churches for enforcement of the political campaign intervention prohibition?

No. There are special audit procedures that the IRS must follow before commencing any inquiry about potential violation by a church of the political campaign intervention prohibition.63 The IRS may begin a church tax inquiry only if the Director, Exempt Organizations, Examinations, reasonably believes, based on facts and circumstances recorded in writing, that the church may not be qualified for section 501(c)(3) tax exemption, including potential violations of the political campaign intervention prohibition. Once an inquiry is begun, the IRS must follow special procedures set forth in the Internal Revenue Code in its further dealings with the church.64 Thus, the IRS does not have unfettered discretion to investigate activities by churches, including violations of the political campaign intervention prohibition, and must obtain high-level authorization before doing so. Generally, IRS inquiries about potential violations by churches of the political campaign intervention prohibition are initiated based upon facts reported by the media or complaints submitted by third parties.

45. Palin's Church of Tongue-Talkers and Faith Healers!
I did some research on my own yesterday, some of this you may know, some you may not. Please feel free to share this with others:

Palin's new "Home Church" is a Charismatic church

Sarah Palin "sometimes worships (or attends services) at the Juneau Christian Center, which is also part of the Pentecostal Assemblies of God, said Brad Kesler, business administrator of the denomination's Alaska District. But her home church is The Church on the Rock, an independent congregation."

source: http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5g4-w_DCWffagBaQb8Il9a0R2hkPAD92SL7E00

The very word "Pentecostal" equates to "cult" to most mainstream Evangelicals. So of course she's going to attempt to distance herself... and by using the term "Non-Denominational" or "Independent" she has fooled quite a few already.

As Charismatics they believe in all 21 gifts of the spirit

I did some research to get it straight from the horse's mouth.

Let's listen to the Pastor of Sarah Palin's "Home Church", The Church on the Rock:

http://www.churchontherockak.org/video/

On this Media page of the website for The Church on the Rock. You will find under the year 2008 Pastor David Pepper's sermon "Feed Yourself" - 25:27 minutes in to the video he encourages his Charismatic congregation to "contend for the miraculous", "contend for the healings", "contend for all the 21 gifts of the spirit" - guess what? That includes speaking in tongues and healing people by putting your hands on them. He talks about church members going out and "prophesying" and "healing" people on the streets. Sound pretty freaking nutty to me.

Here is the list of superpowers these people claim to possess

Sarah Palin's Pastor and Spiritual Leader encourages his congregation to seek the 21 Gifts of the Spirit.

This includes the 9 Charismatic gifts, or what I call "Superpowers":

(1) Word of Wisdom — A Word means "a supernaturally imparted fragment." Wisdom generally means a practical skill in the affairs of life, such as prudence, decision making.

(2) Word of Knowledge — Supernaturally inspired utterance of facts.

(3) Faith — Supernatural impartation of assurance in God.

(4) Gifts of Healings — Supernaturally ministering health to the sick.

(5) Working of Miracles — Supernatural intervention of natural laws. The Greek describes it as "works of power" and implies instantaneous results.

(6) Prophecy — A supernaturally inspired utterance from God. A genuine prophetic utterance never contradicts, neither is equal to, the written Word of God. To forthtell or foretell. To speak from the mind of God. (Prophecies are to be judged according to 1 Cor. 14:29, 1 Thes. 5:20-21).

(7) Discerning of Spirits — This gift enables one to discern a person's spiritual character and the source of his actions and messages, such as the Holy Spirit, demon spirits, the human spirit or the flesh.

(8) Different Kinds of Tongues — Supernaturally imparted utterance in an unlearned language. The purpose is to edify the body. This is distinguished from "praying" in tongues, which is intended to edify one's own spirit (1 Cor. 14:14). A message in tongues to the body is always to be interpreted (by another gift), and is limited to three within a gathering (1 Cor. 14:27).

(9) Interpretation of Tongues — To interpret a message in tongues into the understandable language of the hearers. It is not a "translation" but an interpretation.

You will notice that "Working Miracles" and "Gifts of Healing" are two different things.

These folks actually believe that they can Supernaturally dispense with the laws of nature and perform miracles instantaneously, such as pulling people out of wheel chairs and making the lame to walk.

57. I'm an editor. So maybe I'm a fanatic about the use of language.
But in that whole speech at the church, I heard one word in which she pronounced the "ing" ending. All the rest were "helpin', doin', hopin', makin'," and so forth, ad infinitum.

Just imagine this Pentecostal aficionado talkin' affairs of state with, say, the heads of state of Europe, The British Isles, Asia, South America and, most of all, Russia! Any of them most likely have better English skills than Sarah Palin possesses.

Disgustin', ain't it?????

71. We're a laughing stock before the world that this woman is even under consideration ...
... for high public office. There's still time for her to withdraw, after the convention but before the election, because of family issues, as the heat gets more intense over her record in Alaska. But, yes, we've seen the bar so lowered by Bushco that the lame, the halt, and the blind can now seriously consider running for the highest offices in the land. And we're all being encouraged to keep our opinions to ourselves via the medium of pepper spray and cattle pens.

What a thought to start the day with!

66. The points aren't especially her beliefs
but her bent towards theocracy. Look how seamlessly she weaves church and state. How she proposes it as a cooperation.

I'm a Christian and certainly believe many Democrats shown too much disdain for all people of faith but mostly for Christians. That establishing religion does not equate separation of church and state to the point of banning a nativity scene or a Christmas tree at the firehouse, or kids being in trouble for wearing a symbol of their faith.

I'm not associated with the Sara Palin's of the world. I understand that she wants to establish law, policy, and society based on her beliefs. That is what will bother all sane Americans. Part of what our freedom of religion is people can believe what they will but none of us can decide what we will all believe in.

Again, the beliefs aren't the point of Palin's extremism. The point is like a radical cleric in the middle east she is comfortable as an old pair of slippers with basing laws and policies on her own personal beliefs.
None of us have beliefs so air tight we should feel comfortable basing our society on them without debate or any further context.

This chick is dangerous and batshit well beyond any speaking in tongues, so I'll save why these extreme "Christians" ignore Jesus and go right for Old Testament Jewish law (but only the fire and brimstone portions) to live under. They're NEVER pushing Jubilee because that clashes with their true god-greed for the dollar. They'll never talk about the book of Ruth and how the law required wheat be left for the poor to glean because that drives back at their welfare tantrums. They can never testify how awesome a God my God is because they put the power that creates the universe into a box. They hate science! They hate discovery and knowledge. My God despairs that his children will suffer and cease due to lack of knowledge. No doubt that is the special Republican brand of prideful ignorance!

Anyway

Palin=Theocrat

should say it all without attacking any particular views. Use that as nothing more than a frame of reference for those you know in these matters. The general attack is that she openly desires to impose her beliefs on society based entirely because her book says.

70. She's like the anti-christ, I tell you. This is fucking scary.
Not only is she religious, but she is also voraciously self-serving. She asks people to pray for her agenda items and she appears to be manipulating her "love for god" into votes and political support. A Shyster, a prettier, gutsier Tammy Faye Baker. What's under the covers? There have to be illegal things to be found there.

She scares me a bit. I hope most people are scared by her too.
