Palin: US Soldiers on a Task from God

Speaking before the Pentecostal church, Palin painted the current war in Iraq as a messianic affair in which the United States could act out the will of the Lord.

"Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending (U.S. soldiers) out on a task that is from God," she exhorted the congregants. "That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God's plan."

Religion, however, was not strictly a thread in Palin's foreign policy. It was part of her energy proposals as well. Just prior to discussing Iraq, Alaska's governor asked the audience to pray for another matter -- a $30 billion national gas pipeline project that she wanted built in the state. "I think God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so pray for that," she said.

3. Be afraid. Be very afraid
Whether she becomes actual VP or not, the world knows that the (currently) ruling party is putting up a fanatical Christian theocrat bent on world domination for election to the highest office in the land.

You can bet anything you want that these words will be replayed over and over and over again in Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia and other Muslim countries.

10. That last statement should be on every TV news channel in this
country. That is the most ridiculous statement I have ever heard from ANY politician.

11. Doesn't read to me that she thinks that they are definitely on task from god

It reads to me that she's asking her audience, in effect, to pray that our leaders are acting wisely and in a fashion of which god would approve.

Of course, I personally don't believe in prayer, being a diehard atheist. And I don't think that god either approve or disapprove of either side in a human dispute. So I find this a completely unacceptable way of talking.

But don't religious people talk this way all the time? Don't they think somehow that we ought to be instruments of "god's will." So why would any already religious person find it offensive or in any way strange to pray that our leaders "do gods will" rather than "man's will." If anything, her exhortation expresses at least a hint of uncertainty that there really is a plan and uncertainty that this mission is really in accordance with the will of god.

But maybe I missing something.

LIke I said, being a dyed-in-the-wool atheist, this sort of talk always leaves me cold anyway. And I wish politicians would just stay away from it to begin with.

13. More evidence to never elect a person looking forward to the end of the world
Which is what she is describing. She believes we are in the end times. And she is looking forward to the end of the world.
